In the tomb painting of the Northern Dynasties, there were always two paintings drawing an oxcart and a saddle-horse as the center of murals on each side of the chamber walls respectively, and with many attendants encircling the oxcart and saddle-horse, all these factors composed a picture of going out. This paper will focus on the particular theme---a going out picture of oxcart and saddle-horse, studying the formation and origin of this theme in the Northern Dynasties. And the conclusion is that this theme appeared in Northern Wei, becoming a set of norm in the Northern Qi. And this kind of norm had a strength of stipulation to the officials, making the going out picture of oxcart and saddle-horse’s theme expand from the capital of Northern Qi to edge region gradually.
