复译是对已有译本的外国著作的再次翻译，能够激发并延续作品的生命力。近几十年来，复译现象越来越普遍，其背后的影响因素有很多，例如前译会随着语言文字的发展变化逐渐过时、前译的质量不高等等。为探讨如何复译，本翻译实践报告选取了笔者的复译项目为研究对象，复译的源语文本Eichmann and the Holocaust（《艾希曼与大屠杀》）是汉娜·阿伦特的政治哲学著作，书中阿伦特围绕纳粹战犯阿道夫·艾希曼探讨了邪恶的本质。通过阅读此书，读者可以了解艾希曼的罪责及阿伦特眼中耶路撒冷审判的得与失。该书的首个中译本已于2017年出版，这一译本虽然发行量大、受众广泛，却仍有较大改进空间，其中存在误译、“翻译腔”、长句处理僵化、行文不流畅等问题，因此笔者认为有必要复译。笔者完成复译后对比了复译和前译译文，从准确性、习语翻译、长句逻辑性和中英表达习惯差异四个方面重点讨论了复译较前译的改进之处，认为复译在一定程度上超越了前译，兼顾了忠实性和可读性，更适合不熟悉政治哲学领域的普通读者阅读。此外，基于对本次复译实践的反思，笔者还探讨了复译和前译之间的关系，并为复译译者提出了一些建议，如重视对前译的分析，有针对性地找到超越前译的突破口。通过总结笔者本次复译实践的优点、不足及经验，本报告希望能对复译译者有所帮助，为复译实践提供一定启示。

Retranslation refers to the translation of a foreign literary work that has already been translated, which injects new vitality to the work. In recent decades, the phenomenon of retranslation has become prevailing because the previous translation gradually becomes outdated with the development of the language or there are mistakes found in the previous translation, etc. In order to discuss how to retranslate, the report focuses on the author's project of retranslating Eichmann and the Holocaust, Hannah Arendt's masterpiece in political philosophy. Centered on the Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann, the book discusses the nature of evil and its readers would be able to understand Eichmann's culpability and the gains and losses of the Jerusalem trial as Arendt sees it. The first Chinese translation of the book was published in 2017. Although this edition is popular, there is still much room for improvement with problems such as mistranslation, translationese, rigid translation of long sentences and lack of fluency, so it is necessary to retranslate it. By comparing the author’s retranslation with the previous translation, the report elaborates the improvements of the retranslation over the previous translation with examples in four aspects: accuracy, translation of idioms, logic of long and complicated sentences, and differences in expression between Chinese and English. The retranslation is better than the previous translation to a certain extent, taking into account the balance between fidelity and readability, which is more suitable for readers who are not well-versed in political philosophy. In addition, based on the reflections of retranslation, the author also discusses the relationship between retranslation and previous translation and puts forward some suggestions for retranslators, for example, retranslators should put emphasis on the analysis of the previous translation so that they can set specific goals to achieve better effects than the previous translation. By summarizing the strengths and shortcomings of the retranslation experience, this report hopes to be helpful to retranslators and provide some implications for future retranslation practice.
