The Burning Wasteland is a novel written by Lu Ling in 1948, which is set in the towns of Sichuan during the Anti-Japanese War and focuses on the struggle between peasants and landlords. In the process of getting involved in reality and thinking about it, Luling rediscovered the borderland China and the people at the bottom. From the ambivalence of modern individuals and the complex spiritual world of the nation, the author has launched a new exploration and found a breakthrough for the novel to intervene in social life. The proposition of "the trauma of spiritual slavery" put forward by Hu Feng opens up the possibility of seeking the opportunity of liberation in the struggle with the historical burden. The narration of Lu Ling's novels is influenced by Hu Feng's "subjective fighting spirit". However, neither the self-struggle of the characters nor the thinking of the characters guided by the narrator can open up a new road for the growth of the characters, but it is precisely the remention of the lost past that contains the hope of the future. In The Burning Wasteland, there are two revolutions of Guo Zilong and Zhang Laoer. Guo Zilong shows the absurdity of struggling with the dislocation of history, while Zhang Laoer realizes the revolutionary action from the redemption of the past. |
