本研究对比分析中国英语学习者与英语本族语者的学术论文英语摘要,目的是找到英语本族语者和中国英语学习者在主位和主位推进模式上的特点,并比较它们的相同点与不同点。本研究用到对比分析法、定量研究和定性研究方法。本研究的语料包括100篇硕士研究生毕业论文的英语学术论文摘要,其中包括50篇选自中国知网的中国英语学习者的英文摘要,和50篇选自ProQuest数字化学位论文数据库上的英语本族语者的英文摘要。 结果显示两组学生在主位和主位推进模式的选择上有很多相同点。第一,简单主位被最多用到,句子主位被最少用到。第二,由认知性名词和宾语性名词成分充当的无标记的简单主位被频繁使用。第三,两组中都没有用人际主位。第四,简单线性主位推进模式是使用最频繁的主位推进模式。但是,本研究也发现了不同点。第一,本族语者使用更多的“添加”成分做语篇主位;第二,本族语者多使用表示并列关系的句子主位,较少使用表示从属关系和“it be ... that...”结构的句子主位;第三,本族语者使用更多的简单线性主位模式,较少使用没有规律的主位推进模式。这些发现不仅丰富了对主位理论的研究,也为英文摘要写作提供了建议。

This study makes a contrastive analysis of English research article abstracts written by Chinese English learners and English native speakers, aiming to find out characteristics in choosing themes and thematic progression patterns, and similarities and differences between these two groups. The study employs contrastive approach, quantitative and qualitative approach. The linguistic corpus consists of 100 English research article abstracts written by postgraduates to gain their masters’ degree, including 50 abstracts written by Chinese English learners selected from CNKI and 50 abstracts selected from ProQuest Digital Dissertations.Results show many similarities in choosing theme and thematic progression patterns between two groups. First, simple theme is most frequently employed and clausal theme is least frequently employed. Second, unmarked simple theme realized by epistemic nouns and objects of nouns are more frequently used. Third, there is no interpersonal theme. Fourth, simple linear pattern dominates in both groups. But differences also exist. First, native speakers employ more additive elements as textual themes; second, native speakers use more paratactically linked clauses and fewer hypotactically linked clauses or clauses in “it be ...that...” structure; third, native speakers employ more simple linear pattern and fewer thematic progression patterns without regularity. The findings not only enrich the study of theme theory, but also provide suggestions on English abstracts writing.
