Ding Ling is a complicated writer in the history of Chinese modern literature.From Ding Ling went to Yan 'an in 1937 to the Yan 'an Forum on Literature and Art was held in 1942, this period was called the "Early Yan 'an Period" of Ding Ling, which was a key turning point in Ding Ling's creative career.Obviously, Ding Ling has a highly sensitive heart. She consciously integrated her own unique insights and delicate feelings into her Literary creation. Therefore, we can always extract her continuous and real evolution of mentality from her works.The change of Ding Ling's creative mentality in the "Early Yan 'an period" should be embodied in three stages: the revolutionary idealism creation before she entered Yan 'an, the discussion on the basic problems of the revolution when she entered Yan 'an and the return of the critical spirit of personality after she went deep into Yan 'an. At last,Ding Ling gave up her imagination of revolution and looked at the real meaning of revolution from the perspective of specific problems.She discussed how to stimulate the internal power of farmers, explained the importance of building a collective family and built a social system full of understanding and tolerance.What’s more,Ding Ling also captured various realistic problems in Yan 'an society, which directly stimulated the return of Ding Ling's faded critical consciousness of personality. Thus, Ding Ling entered into the in-depth discussion of the relations among various classes in Yan 'an, including the re-attention to the fate of new or traditional women in Yan'an. On the whole, Ding Ling’s complex consciousness in the "Early Yan 'an Period" can not only help us understand the evolution of literary trends in Yan 'an area in the 1940s, but also provide a typical example for us to understand the creative mentality of the intellectuals in Yan 'an who were in the same period with Ding Ling.
