The prevalence of diabetes in the elderly is increasing. Although life-long medication is the top priority, drug compliance is still poor. The development of Internet medical services has produced a number of diabetes management APPs, but they have complex operation procedures and limited interaction forms, and lack of the medication management function. As the result, they have low user adoption and acceptance among elderly users. The advancement of OCR technology (technology that converts paper character recognition into electronic text) and voice interaction technology (technology that directly interacts with machines using everyday language) can greatly simplify the operation process and effectively reduce the cognitive load of elderly diabetic patients. Therefore, it is important to investigate what major factors that affect the compliance of elderly diabetes medication, and how to design an intelligent management APP that meets the needs of elderly diabetic patients, and then explore the impact of the APP on the compliance of elderly patients with medication. In this study, the target population was the elderly people over 60 years old who had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and were taking oral medications. First of all, through expert interviews, we understood the current medication management status and needs of elderly diabetic patients, experts' evaluation of existing products, and expectations and suggestions for future products for elderly patients. Then through a questionnaire survey, we verified the current situation of poor medication compliance of elderly diabetic patients, and summarized the major factors that affect the medication compliance of elderly patients: family or caregiver reminders, diabetes knowledge and understanding, remember to take medication, and long-term medication psychology. Then through one-on-one in-depth interviews, we learned that the frequency of elderly patients using the diabetes management APP is low. The subjects who used Sugar Nurses APP said they were not familiar with its medication reminder function. Furthermore, even though a good proportion of elderly people used smart voice products, but they only used the simple functions. Ased on the above conclusions, we summarized the medication management needs of elderly patients, produced user persona, refined design points, designed the information framework of the elderly diabetes intelligent management APP, analyzed the interaction process, developed interface prototypes and the functional app using Android Studio. After the development was completed, the APP was evaluated through usability testing. The test results showed that the use of intelligent voice and OCR technology can effectively simplify the operation process, shorten the operation time, improve user satisfaction, medication management function satisfaction and medication compliance. |
