Based on the basic data of the Fortune 500 companies from 2008 to 2019, the paper employs statistical methods to analyze the industry distribution of U.S. companies in the list and establishes a model to evaluate the industrial structure of industry and service industry.

First, the paper focuses on the overall changes of Fortune 500 companies from 2008 to 2019. After categorizing the basic characteristics of the shortlisted companies, it is found that although the developed countries such as the United States have an absolute advantage, their advantages are decreasing and developing countries are catching up. At the same time, although the Fortune 500 companies are dominated by traditional industries, in fact, traditional industries such as extractive industries, manufacturing industries, and energy industries are playing a less important role. They are replaced by the rise of emerging industries.

After that, the author also analyzed the industry structure of American companies in the Fortune 500. The United States has been hit by the development of other countries. The number of its Fortune 500 companies in the world is declining, and the number of its traditional industry companies is also declining. However, the United States still occupies a dominant position in technology, finance and retail.

We studied the industrial structure of American companies and found that the service industry is replacing heavy industry as the main driving force of economic growth.

Finally, conclusions are drawn and suggestions on development to other countries are put forward.
