My Book of Stories——Write Your Own Myths(《自己写故事书:神话篇》)由大英图书馆出版,选取了世界各地的神话故事片段,每个片段后附有相应的写作建议,引发儿童进行文学创作的兴趣,是一部儿童写作指导用书。读者不仅能通过阅读神话传说了解西方文化,积累写作素材,还能从其写作建议中获得启发,创作神话故事。 本报告以《自己写故事书:神话篇》的英汉翻译文本为基础,对该翻译过程做出描述与总结。笔者结合儿童语言能力和儿童文学中的语言特点,总结了儿童文学的翻译原则,探讨了此项目中的难点——长句翻译策略的使用。笔者从句法和重心位置两个方面比较中英句式差异,介绍英语长句的特征,分析中国儿童文学的句子特点,最终采用5种较为实用的长句翻译方法,即包孕法、分切法、倒置法、重组法和插入法,以提高译文质量,满足特定目标读者的需要。总之,译者既要考虑目标读者的语言能力和语言特点,又要选择合适的翻译策略,才能译出高质量的翻译作品。
外文摘要:
My Book of Stories——Write Your Own Myths, published by the British Library, is a guide book for children’s writing. The book collects snippets of myth stories from all around the world, paired with suggestions of how to write a story, arousing children’s interest in writing. By reading myths, children can not only learn about Western culture and obtain writing materials, but also be inspired to write their own myths. This report, based on the English-Chinese translation of My Book of Stories——Write Your Own Myths, unfolds and summarizes the whole translation process. Firstly, according to children’s linguistic competence and language characteristics, the author sums up translation principles of children’s literature and discusses the major difficulty that is the translation strategies of long sentences during translation. Secondly, the author compares sentence patterns between Chinese and English in terms of syntactic differences and the positions of focus, introduces the features of long sentences in English and analyzes the characteristics of Chinese children’s literature.Then, the author takes five pertinent methods including embedding, cutting, reversing, splitting-off and recasting to translate the long sentences in children’s literature, to improve translation’s quality and meet the needs of target readers. In short, translators should consider the linguistic competence and language characteristics of target readers, as well as choose practical translation strategies to produce high-quality translation works.
