Contemporary college students were born in the era of rapid Internet development. The Internet has penetrated every aspect of their lives and rebuilt their social life and interpersonal relationships. Previous studies have shown that compared with offline friendship, online friendship has higher intimacy but lower quality. The transformation of capital and the impact of emotions have made previous researchers respectively believe that whether online friendship is virtual or real, but ignored the experience of college students' online friendships. Capital theory and mediatization theory were used to analyze their online friendships construction process explore the characteristics and the significance of their online friendships, and contribute to a better understanding of social medialization at the level of online friendships. Therefore, interviews with 16 post-00s college students were conducted, obtained the materials of the construction process, and found the three stages of the online friendships construction process: meet by chance, know each other well and appreciate mutually. Also, they have different attitudes and ways of dealing with breakups that occur at different stages. The results of this study indicate that for college students, the long-term friendships they have established online are inseparable experiences that they have experienced in real life, which is worthy of educators’ attention and continuous learning, to better improve digital literacy.
