This article mainly discusses the decentralization of the Portuguese Inquisition and the religious activities of the Portuguese Inquisition in the Diocese of Macau. This article is composed of three parts: introduction, body and conclusion, including two chapters in the body. The introduction includes the significance of the topic and the research summary. The research review, in recent years, reviews the operating mechanism of the Inquisition in Portugal and its colonies in the domestic academic circles, the history of its establishment and development, and the relationship between the Diocese of Macau and the Inquisition in Goa. According to the findings of new historical materials, it is shown that religious investigators have visited Macau for activities and some opinions on the study of the activities. Chapter One introduces the relevant background of the Portuguese Inquisition and discusses the issue of decentralization of the Portuguese Inquisition. The Portuguese Inquisition was established in 1536. It is a religious judicial institution with national secular and world colonial features. The top administrator of this institution is the king and his descendants, etc., and it becomes a tool for the king to centralize his royal power. Driven by the right of Patronatus missionum, Portugal continued to expand in the Far East. At the same time, in order to maintain the purity and orthodoxy of the Catholic Church and defend the reputation of the Holy See, the Inquisition was established in Goa, India. Therefore, the religious investigation activities of the Portuguese Inquisition have a characteristic of being extremely mobile and transcending geographical limits. Chapter Two briefly describes the process of the establishment of the Diocese of Macau, analyzes the establishment of the Inquisition in the Diocese of Macau, and discusses the religious activities of the inquisitors in Macau. With the arrival of the Portuguese and missionaries, some of them chose to stay in Macau and build churches there. By 1576, the Pope of Rome announced the establishment of a Catholic diocese in Macau. Local missionaries discovered the existence of Jewish converts, and the inquisitor, Bishop Sá, had an important impact on the social and religious order and judicial system of the Diocese of Macau. In addition to Judaization cases, the inquisitor also included bribery of clergy, new Christians of other denominations, smuggling by sea, and illegal possession of books that violate Catholic teachings. At the same time, they are faced with various difficulties and challenges in the process of carrying out affairs. the conclusion, a general summary is made here, and it is pointed out that although Macau does not have an inquisition, it is connected with the religious activities of the Portuguese Inquisition. The Goa Inquisition played a role as a link between the Portuguese Inquisition and the Diocese of Macau. The various social forces in Macau and the Portuguese Inquisition may have complex contradictions and intertwined relations of interest, and the Diocese of Macau has become the arena for the struggle between them. The Portuguese Inquisition has delegated its manifestation of "ownership", and the chaos of the social and religious order in the diocese of Macau is an inevitable result of its activities. |
