The paper will discuss and analyze leadership styles and their correlation with employee motivation in the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs,a public service sector in Fiji.The work will discuss the different leadership styles in the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs,focusing on the leadership styles of the four divisional leaders in the four divisions in the organization studied and specifically on the two types of leadership styles,transformational and transactional leaders.
It will further discuss how these two different leadership styles correlate with employee motivation.It will further discuss the various motivational theories,their importance,and their consequences.These theories will include Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory,Fredrick Hertz's Two-factor theory,and Victor Vroom's Expectancy theory.Moreover,discussed the types of motivation,namely the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations.
Questionnaires and interviews were the main tools used in the study with two sets of questionnaires prepared.The questionnaires were distributed to the employees of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs which were filled accordingly.Both probability and non-probability sampling techniques were used in this study.The respondents to the questionnaires included project officers,administrative officers,middle-level officers,and the manager levels.
The study discovered that employees were somewhat motivated and that transactional and transformational leadership styles were moderately used.The survey's findings demonstrated a measurable boost in staff motivation.According to the study,leaders should consider their employee's contributions when making decisions,communicate with employees frequently,build and maintain relationships with them,and encourage employees to express their opinions and ideas.These are just a few of the transactional principles that should be implemented.A further factor that has a significant impact on employees'motivation in public sectors is the implementation of transformational principles such as idealized influence, inspirational motivation,intellectual stimulation,and individualized consideration
