本文积极吸纳中外学界有关民间戏剧和认同,特别是族群认同的研究成果,运用民族志式田野作业与文本分析相结合的方法,以曼谷市耀华力社区的民族志研究为案例,探讨了泰国华人的民间戏剧表演与其族群认同的构建之间的密切关系。论文从历时性和共时性两个层面,较全面、深入地展现了耀华力社区的华人民间戏剧传统被不断建构的动态过程,以及在这一过程中该社区的华人族群如何通过民间戏剧表演这一民俗而持续获得自己的族群认同感。论文将华人民间戏剧表演作为民俗事件,生动展示了表演事件中的组织者(如头人、主家与各级政府)、当地文化专家、表演者以及观众对族群认同的维系和强化所起的作用。本文力图弥补国际民俗学界有关泰国华人民间戏剧研究的薄弱之处,强化海外华人民间戏剧研究,并从泰国华人民间戏剧研究这一特殊角度,推进学界对于族群认同的研究。

论文首置绪论,尾置结论,正文共分为五章。

绪论部分主要陈述选题背景、前人相关研究、研究目的、意义与方法。第一章主要介绍了作为泰国华人民间戏剧的再生之地的耀华力社区,展示该地区的文化背景,并分析了戏剧演出成为曼谷华人社区标志性文化的原因及其地方性特征。第二章采用历时性视角,探讨了曼谷华人民间戏剧表演与族群认同的历史变迁,展现了戏剧表演传统从早期生态到1980年以后的复归时期的过程。第三、四、五章主要围绕共时性的当代呈现而展开,通过具体的表演事件,展现和分析了泰国华人在当下生活语境中的民间戏剧表演实践及其维系和强化族群认同的功能。其中,第三章聚焦于民间仪式语境中的戏剧表演,并从诞辰戏和谢神戏两个不同情境中的表演,分析其如何构建了华人的归属感。第四章考察了节日庆典语境中的戏剧表演对族群认同的构建作用,以社区举办的吃斋节、元宵节以及官方主办的春节活动中的节庆戏表演事件为中心,讨论当地华人如何通过这些表演构建自己对族群的认同感。第五章主要以丧葬戏和开业戏为例,关注耀华力社区最常见的家庭仪礼语境中的戏剧表演,并探讨当地华人如何通过这些传统文化来体现出他们的族群认同。

本文的主要结论包括:第一,泰国耀华力社区华人民间戏剧表演传统的形成与该社区的地理环境和历史变迁密切相关。第二,泰国华人族群认同的构建是与特定历史语境之间不断互动而形成的。第三,华人民间戏剧表演与民间信仰相伴相生,强化了华人对自己母国文化的认同。第四,民间戏剧表演对娱乐和狂欢精神的追求维系和建构着当地华人的族群认同。第五,华人民间戏剧中表达的传统道德伦常、吉祥符号,对强化族群认同发挥了重要作用。

This paper actively draws on the research results of Chinese and foreign scholars on folk dramas and identity, especially ethnic identity, and uses the method of combining ethnographic fieldwork and text analysis to explore the close relationship between folk dramas performances of Chinese in Thailand and the construction of ethnic identity, taking the ethnographic study of the Yaowarat community in Bangkok as a case study. From the two levels of diachronic and synchronic, this paper comprehensively and deeply shows the dynamic process of the continuous construction of the Chinese folk drama tradition in the Yaowarat community, and how the Chinese in the community continues to gain its own ethnic identity through folk dramas performances in this process. This paper treats Chinese folks dramas performances as folk events, and vividly demonstrates the role of organizers (such as headmen, hosts, and governments at all levels), local cultural experts, performers, and audiences in maintaining and strengthening ethnic identity. This paper attempts to make up for the weaknesses of the international folklore scholars in the study of Thai Chinese folk dramas, strengthen the study of overseas Chinese folk dramas, and promote the research on ethnic identity from the special perspective of Thai Chinese folk dramas research.

The paper is divided into five chapters, with an introduction and a conclusion.

The introductory part mainly states the background of the topic, previous research, research purpose, significance and methodology. The first chapter focuses on the Yaowarat community as a rebirth of Chinese folk dramas in Thailand, presents the cultural background of the region, and analyzes the reasons why dramas performances have become the iconic culture of the Chinese community in Bangkok and its local characteristics. Chapter 2 explores the historical changes in Chinese folk dramas performances and ethnic identity in Bangkok from a diachronic perspective, showing the process of dramas performances traditions from the early ecology to the post-1980 reversion. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 focus on the contemporary presentation of synchronicity, showing and analyzing folk dramas performances practice of Thai Chinese in the context of contemporary life and its function of maintaining and strengthening ethnic identity through specific performance events. Chapter 3 focuses on dramas performances in the context of folk rituals, and analyzes how the performances in two different contexts, the God’s birthday and the thanksgiving dramas, construct a sense of belonging for the Chinese. Chapter 4 examines the role of dramas performances in the construction of ethnic identity in the context of festival celebrations, focusing on the festivals and performances of the vegetarian festival and lantern festivals held by the community, and the official spring festival events, and discusses how local Chinese people can build their own sense of ethnic identity through these performances. Chapter 5 focuses on funeral dramas and opening dramas, focusing on dramas performances in the context of the most common family rituals in the Yaowarat community, and explore how local Chinese people reflect their ethnic identity through these traditional cultures.

The main conclusions of this paper include: First, the formation of the Chinese folk dramas performances tradition in the Yaowarat community in Thailand is closely related to the geographical environment and historical changes of the community. Second, the construction of Chinese ethnic identity in Thailand is formed by continuous interaction with specific historical contexts. Third, Chinese folk dramas performances and folk beliefs go hand in hand, which strengthens the identity of Chinese people with the culture of their home country. Fourth, the pursuit of entertainment and carnival spirit in folk dramas performances maintains and constructs the ethnic identity of the local Chinese. Fifth, the traditional morality and auspicious symbols expressed in Chinese folk drama has played an important role in strengthening ethnic identity.
