In recent times, certain problematic internet site using have gained increasing attention Since the issue of excessive generalized internet using has become a popular research topic in academia. One such site is the short videos which had a rapidly growing trend has been found to have adverse consequences when used excessively, leading to the identification of "problematic short video use (PSVU)". As a relatively new form of internet site, basic research on PSVU is still incomplete, and the lack of effective measurement tools has limited further study in this field. Meanwhile, PSVU is often included as a subgroup in related studies on problematic social media use; however, PSVU has its own unique characteristics that cannot be ignored compared with the latter. Therefore, integrating the demographic characteristics, antecedents, and consequences of both PSVU and problematic social media use in relevant mechanisms may not be appropriate and could even lead to biased evaluations and inappropriate interventions for problematic individuals. In the current context, there is an urgent need to develop a screening scale that effectively identifies individuals with PSVU and distinguishes them from those who require untangling. This will help in recognizing the differences between the two groups of individuals and enable appropriate interventions to be implemented. Current study developed a screening tool for problematic short-video use (PSVU) after qualitative interviews research around target user. and DSM-5 criteria for internet gaming disorders was referenced according to the previous study of other specific problematic internet site use scale. The PSVU screening tool demonstrated good internal consistency (α=0.95), composite reliability (CR=0.98), and test-retest reliability (r=0.78**). The tool also showed good construct validity (standardized factor loadings between 0.6 and 0.96) and was significantly correlated with other measures of negative life events, perceived stress, anxiety, depression, self-control, and short-video addiction. A latent profile analysis identified three groups of individuals: normal user, risky user, and problematic user, and the best cutoff score for the PSVU screening tool was 75.5 points. A brief version of the tool was also developed and demonstrated good reliability and validity. The high-order factor analysis model provided statistical evidence for the specificity of PSVU as compared to social media addiction. This study contributes to the development of valid and reliable tools for measuring PSVU measurement tool with sufficient psychometric properties and provides important references for future epidemiological research, clinical interventions, and public health studies.and it should not be grouped together with problematic social media use as it has its own unique characteristics. To address this, a screening tool for PSVU was developed through qualitative interviews and referencing DSM-5 criteria for internet gaming disorder. The tool showed good psychometric properties, including construct validity, reliability, and correlations with negative life events, stress, anxiety, and depression. A latent profile analysis identified three groups of individuals, and a brief version of the tool was also developed. This study provides a valuable contribution to future research on PSVU and its implications for clinical intervention and public health efforts. |
