"Kichiku" culture is an emerging subculture in contemporary Chinese Internet space. From the perspective of the Birmingham School's subculture research theory, "Kichiku" culture as a subculture can be regarded as a kind of "resistance through rituals". Its practice of creation conforms to the characteristics of the "Encoding/Decoding" model, and forms a unique "style" through "bricolage" and "homology" as its own symbol, and the eventually forms an independent cultural group, which shows the use and emphasis of young people on leisure activities, thus resulting in differences in concepts and actions from their "parents" and reflecting the generational awareness of the subculture group.

At the same time, the development of "Kichiku" culture is also facing problems, including: firstly, the reduction of leisure time has reduced the space for "Kichiku" creation; secondly, "Kichiku" as a subculture is  facing the pressure of the incorporation of commodity form and ideological form, which has put the independence and uniqueness of its own "style" under threat; and thirdly, subcultures such as "Kichiku", as an "magical resolution" programme, are unable to truly respond to and solve the realistic social problems faced by young people, and the estimation of the efficacy of their resistance is over-optimistic.

Subcultures such as "Kichiku" are not only significantly different from the mainstream culture in the performance characteristics and conceptual identity of society, but also have a fundamental subordinate relationship with the mainstream culture. Youth subcultures are ultimately a product of the social development process, and it is important to continue to deepen the study of subcultures, and to observe and understand subcultures' iterations and development with an open mind.
