迈克尔•奥克肖特(Michael Oakeshott ,1901-1990),20世纪英国最杰出的保守主义政治哲学家之一,同时也是一位对教育有着深切关怀的学者。他的政治哲学与教育思想是相得益彰的。这不仅是因为作为一名大学教师,他经常性地对教与学进行反思,同时还因为他认为现代性的危机与现代人的“教育”缺失有着密切的关系。因此,教育哲学一直是他孜孜不倦探索的领域之一,他的教育思想同样引人入胜。本文主要从奥克肖特思想的形成背景、思想的独特路径选择以及其教育思想的内涵与特征三个方面展开论述。奥克肖特的教育论著主要形成于英国二战后教育界进行大刀阔斧的改革之际,针对理性主义的技术统治论、对传统文化的破坏以及对整个社会与教育的计划,奥克肖特从其知识论、传统观以及人类行为的研究出发,提出实践知识与技术知识的相互依存、审慎地对待传统与变革以及“游戏人”的观点。他在哲学基础上以捍卫教育的纯洁与神圣性的立场形成了自己对教育的独到理解。他所构想的教育是自由的,是人之为人的根本;它是保守的,需要与外界保持一定的距离;它又是贯通的,这种贯通存在于自由与保守之间,存在于教师与学生是相互依存的合作者关系之中;它还是诗性的,摆脱了确定的、功利的目标,使作为学习者的学生在教育中自由的对话,与传统文化对话,与现在或者过去的人对话,与书本对话,获得一种理智、情感与道德的冒险与在场的快乐,从而最终认识自我及其在这个世界中的存在。奥克肖特强烈反对作为英国科技计划的一部分的高等教育改革,不同意大学应该反映当前现状并专注于解决急切的社会问题。他提出大学的价值不在于使人学会谋生,而在于让他学会过更有意义的生活。这一与古典哲学根本问题相联通的论断和立场使其在西方高等思想史上获得了独特的地位。

Michael Oakeshott, 1901-1990, One of the most outstanding political philosophers in the UK during 20 century, is also a scholar who has deep concern for education. His thought of political philosophy and education benefit by associating together. It is not only because of being a professor, he always rethink profoundly of teaching and learning, but also his concern that the crisis of modernity has closely related to lack of education. So, he is diligently in studying on educational philosophy, and his educational thought is also attractive.The dissertation is discussed from three part, they are the formation background of Oakeshott’s thought, the unique way of what he choose, the connotation and character of his educational thought. Oakeshott’s writing of education is appeared during the drastic reforms in the educational world of UK after the second world war. Aimed at the rationalism’s assertion of technocracy, the damage of the tradition and the plan for all society and education, and based on his epistemology theory of knowledge, the viewpoint of tradition and the research of human conduct, Oakeshott put forward that we should recognize the interdependency of technical knowledge and practical knowledge, treat cautiously between tradition and change, and he also bring the view of ‘Homo ludens’. Stem from his philosophy, he has formed a unique understanding of education. He’s defending on the purity and holiness of education. This kind of education is liberty, it is essential to a man to be himself. It is conservative, the learner should be dedicated in study, and education should keep a distance with outside. It is a connection, teachers and students are collaborator that mutual dependence for existence. It is aesthetic because of getting rid of the certain and utilitarian aim. And it provide a chance for students to conversation freely, to talk with the tradition culture, with person now or the past, with the great books, achieve an intellectual, emotional and moral’s adventure, enjoy the present and finally know oneself and the exit in the world. Oakeshott was strongly against the reform of higher education as being the UK’s science and technology plan, he opposed the University should reflect the present situation and focus on solve the urgent social problem. He suggested that the value of university is not to make people learn how to earn his living, but to learn how to live a meaningful life. This claim and standpoint with the essential issues of classic philosophy made him be a distinctive person in the western history of higher education.
