随着科技的发展和信息时代的到来,科普类书籍的阅读与普及量越来越大,而物理类科普书籍更占据了现代信息技术科普类文本的很大部分。笔者所翻译的《生活中的物理》一书,就是描述现代科技物理原理的科普类书籍之一。本书从日常生活中常见的科技、设备以及各种现象入手,揭示其背后蕴含的物理学原理,内容丰富,翔实有趣。
本文是笔者作为合译者基于《生活中的物理》英译汉项目的翻译实践报告,以笔者所翻译的《生活中的物理》一书(节选)为项目基础,结合关联理论翻译观,总结翻译过程中遇到的诸多难点,对此类文本的翻译进行系统的归纳和分析。
此次项目作为物理科普类文本,意在阐述事物的客观实践原理,多物理学专业内容,因此有其自身的专业性和客观性,语言特点非常鲜明,具有长句多、专业术语多、非专业词汇词义多变以及合成词变化复杂等特点和难点。本报告主要使用归纳总结和举例法,结合项目中的具体案例,探讨如何从认知语境角度解决词义选择问题,如何从意图实现角度看待句法翻译,以及如何运用“明示-推理”模式梳理阐明语篇逻辑,旨在从这三个角度出发,探讨如何运用关联理论翻译观来提高物理科普类文本的翻译质量。

With the development of science and technology and the arrival of the information age, popular science books are becoming more and more popular. The book The Physics Behind… is one such popular science book which describes physics principles in modern science and technology. The book is rich, informative, and intriguing in its exploration of the physics, interesting in its exploration of the physics behind daily technologies, devices, and phenomena.
This paper is a translation practice report based on the English-Chinese translation of The Physics Behind…. As one of the co-translators, the author, by using Relevance Theory of translation, summarizes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation and analyses strategies for the translation of such texts.
As a popular science text of physics, the book has varied professional contents elaborating on the objective practice principle of things and objects. Its original text has distinct language characteristics, such as long sentences, quantities of terms, various meanings of non-professional words and complex changes of compound words. Based on the practice report of the translation project of The Physics Behind…, this paper initially summarizes difficulties encountered in the process of translation. And through case studies, the paper then discusses the way of solving the problem of word meaning selection from the perspective of cognitive context, of viewing syntactic translation from the perspective of intention realization, and of using the model of "ostensive-inferential communication" to clarify logic. This paper aims to explore a better approach to employing Relevance Theory into translation work from the above three perspectives, and thus further improve the quality of translation within popular science texts on physics.
