改革开放以来，随着北京城市化进程的不断的加快，北京居民的生活环境、生活习惯、城乡人员的组成结构发生根本性改变，现代化的生活方式无疑对中国传统民俗体育文化的发展在北京的发展带来极大的冲击。我认为，了解北京民俗体育发展的状况，对民俗体育在北京乃至全国大型城市的发展都是有意义的。而在北京民俗体育运动总体受到冲击的同时，北京农村和城市在民俗游戏受到的冲击程度上、冲击的主要因素上、民俗游戏的发展方向上都有所差异，了解这些差异、并找出这些差异的形成原因，这对全面的了解民俗体育运动在北京的发展现状是很重要的。同时由于民俗游戏内容过于宽广，无法就所有民俗游戏项目进行调查研究，所以本文试图以空竹为例，在借鉴中外经济学者已有的研究成果的基础上，通过在北京东城区(原)及房山区农村地区发放调查问卷的方法，得出有关民俗游戏在北京城乡发展的差异及其形成原因等方面的结论，分别就农村和城市民俗游戏的发展方向并提出一定的政策建议。
