《飘》是当代美国最经典的爱情著作之一，小说通过描写一位敢爱敢恨、美丽任性、不屈不挠的女性——斯嘉丽，表达了南北战争时代美国南方地区的社会生活。 自小说问世以来，吸引了无数读者的喜爱，同时也有很多国内外学者对其进行了各个方面的研究和评论，其中不乏对主人公斯嘉丽的人物性格特征分析。了解主人公的人物性格和命运可以更深入地帮助读者理解小说背后所要表达的意义，因此这方面的分析是必不可少的。然而，纵观现有文献的研究主题和研究内容，绝大多数只是围绕对斯嘉丽人物性格表现的梳理和总结，仅有为数不多的几篇进行了深入的原因分析和影响因素层面的探讨。 斯嘉丽的人物性格特征的形成与其家庭背景、婚姻经历、社会时代有着密不可分的关系，但现有文献缺乏全面、深入地分析，故而本研究致力于深入思考斯嘉丽的人物性格特征，并将进一步分析她性格特征形成的影响因素。通篇论文将采用文本分析法，即阅读原著和一些相关背景的书籍、文献，同时借助女性主义理论和美国精神等思想丰富本文的研究结构和研究深度。 本文的行文结构主要分为四大部分，首先是引言部分，将简要介绍小说内容和背景，同时简要综述前人的研究结论。第二部分是斯嘉丽的人物性格特征分析，主要分为三个阶段：南北战争以前、南北战争时期、南北战争以后。第三部分则是对斯嘉丽人物特征形成原因的分析，包括四个维度：家庭影响、婚姻影响、土地情结和社会影响——南北战争的影响。最后一个部分就是进一步的思考，联系当时两个有代表性的理论思潮，女性主义理论和美国精神，从这两个角度丰富斯嘉丽人物性格成因。

The novel Gone with the Wind is one of the most popular fictions, which shows us a brave and brilliant woman called Scarlett O’Hara who had a lot of uncommon characters. The novel also displays the social life during the Civil War time in America. Since it came out, the fiction attracted a considerable number of readers as well as many scholars who are interested in studying it on every aspect including the analysis on the heroin’s character. It is necessary to master the heroin’s character when you would like to understand deeply the meanings behind the words. The forming of Scarlett’s character has strong relation with her family background, marital experiences and the society. As a result, this paper tries to analyze her character, as well as the influencing factors including social reasons and other aspects so as to make a deeper understanding of the novel Gone with the Wind. The whole thesis would apply text analysis through reading the original fiction and some relevant books, and adopt some theoretical ideas via feminist theory and American spirit simultaneously. The thesis would be divided into four major sections. The first part is introduction which would show the content and background of the fiction briefly as well as the literature review. The second part would be the analysis on Scarlett’s characters which are supposed to be unfolded according to three phases, namely before the Civil War, in the war time and after the wartime. The third part focuses on the analysis of the influencing factors of the forming of the heroin’s character, which contains four dimensions such as home effects, marriages, affection to land and social influences. In addition, the last part would be some further considerations combined with feminism and US spirit, the two major theories or thoughts at that time in America.
