塑造国家文化形象对于提升国家软实力具有重要作用。借助特定的载体,国家形象反映了国家经济、文化、政治等各方面的印象。在各种不同的载体中,教科书对中国文化形象的建构发挥了重要作用,对学生理解和表达中国文化具有重要影响。为了更好地理解教科书中中国文化形象的内容,改进中国文化形象的建构方法,本研究以韩礼德的系统功能语言学和克雷斯和范·莱文的视觉语法为基础,对三本人教版高中英语必修教材中的中国文化形象进行了多模态分析。

本研究依据概念元功能和再现功能对教材中描述中国文化形象的语句和图片进行识别和编码。研究结果表明,教科书中的中国文化形象涵盖了科技形象、运动形象、通俗文化形象、行为形象、价值形象五种类型,主要聚焦于通俗文化形象和行为形象。其中中国文化的多样性通过分类过程和描述不同文化特征的关系过程和象征过程体现。物质过程和行动过程反映了文化活动的行为主体和活动过程,增强参与感。文化活动中的感官感受和愉悦体验体现在心理过程和反应过程中,关系过程和象征过程直接体现了行为背后的内涵意义和价值观念。总体而言,文字和图片在增强视觉效果和丰富意义方面起着互补的作用。最后,研究者对研究材料和数据分析过程的局限性进行了评估。

外文摘要:

The construction of national cultural image plays an important role in promoting national soft power. With the help of specific carrier, national image reflects the impression of a country's economy, culture, politics and other aspects. Among different kinds of carriers, textbooks play an important role in constructing China’s cultural images, since they have a great impact on students’ understanding and expression of Chinese culture. To better understand the content of China’s cultural images in the textbooks and provide suggestions for cultural image construction, this study conducted a multimodal analysis of China’s cultural images in three compulsory PEP senior high school English textbooks, based on Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics and Kress and van Leeuwen’s Visual Grammar.

To explore China’s culture images in the selected textbooks, this study identified and coded clauses and pictures describing China’s cultural images according to ideational meta-function and representational function respectively. The results show that China’s cultural images in textbooks cover five types including science and technology, sports, folk culture, behavior and value, with emphasis on the images of folk culture and behavior. The diversity of Chinese culture is reflected through classificational process of cultural items and relational and symbolic process that describe the unique features of different culture. In addition, material and action process are highlighted to reflect the subjects and process of actions in different cultural events, so as to enhance engagement. The character’s sensory feelings and joyful experience of these cultural events are reflected in mental and reactional process while the connotational meanings and values behind the actions are revealed directly in relational and symbolic process. Overall, the texts and pictures play complementary roles in enhancing visual effects and enriching meaning. Finally, the limitations of research materials and the data analysis process are evaluated.
