汉代瓦当作为瓦当家族的代表之一，其制作工艺之精，当面布局之合理，纹饰之多样，文字之精妙，倍受瞩目。目前对于汉代瓦当的研究，成果卓著，主要集中在分期、纹饰和文字的释读和考证上。笔者在收集和整理汉代瓦当材料的过程中，发现汉墓使用瓦当的材料已有一定数量，但目前对这一情况关注的人不多，更无进一步研究。笔者在系统分析材料的基础上，认为以下三点值得探讨：一、“瓦当护榱”的传统认识需要修正 传统观点认为瓦当主要起护榱作用，兼有装饰作用。四川乐山一号崖墓壁刻瓦当图和昭化城外的汉双阙两则材料提醒我们“瓦当护榱”的传统观点需要修正。二、汉墓不同位置使用的瓦当，其作用不完全一样 汉墓使用瓦当大致可分为墓上建筑使用瓦当和墓内使用瓦当，具体位置不一样，瓦当的作用也不完全一样。具体可分为：1．瓦当作为墓上建筑附件，其为实用瓦当，主要起实用性作用，兼有装饰作用。2．瓦当作为墓内建筑构件，主要起装饰作用，并使建筑完整。3．瓦当作为随葬品，可能取其建筑构件的特质作为死者在另一世界居所的象征。4．瓦当作为垫棺的物件，起衬垫作用。5．封门、甬道和棺椁周围的瓦当，主要起加固、防盗作用。三、汉墓使用瓦当的三个相关问题研究1．汉墓使用瓦当在某种程度上折射出的民族关系 中原汉墓和匈奴人的墓都存在利用建筑材料防盗的情况。但是匈奴人主要利用的是石板。在汉匈交恶时期，大量使用瓦当防盗以及瓦当的残破程度，在某种程度折射出一定的民族关系。2．瓦当对区分汉墓等级的辅助作用 汉代礼法森严，人生前被纳入二十爵位制内，死后主要由墓葬等级来体现。而笔者在系统分析材料的时候，发现：A 瓦当存在与否与墓上建筑直接挂钩，数量多寡与墓上建筑规模、数量有关。在一定程度上有助于区分墓葬等级。B 不同等级墓葬墓上建筑使用的瓦当文字不一样，而同等级的趋于一致，瓦当文字在一定程度上有益于区分汉墓等级。3． 汉墓大量使用云纹瓦当所体现的思想 汉墓云纹瓦当的大量使用，可能是神仙思想的一贯延续，死者灵魂不死，羽化登天。

The research on the Han Dynasty eaves tile, is focusing on periodizati .Recently, there are many prominent results in the research of the tile of Han Dynasty, which mainly focuse on the division of the tile history, decoration, and literal understanding and researching up. In the process of collecting and sorting material of Han Dynasty tile, the writer discovers that the usage of tile in the Han Dynasty grave has already had a certain amount. But few people is concerning about this case, so there is no further research nowadays. On the basis of generally analyzing material, the writer thinks that the following should deserve a study:1． The traditional understanding of " the eaves tile protects the rafter " need to be revised. What is the essential usage of tile? The traditional view is that " the eaves tile protects the rafter " . Engraved tile diagram of No.1 cliff grave in the Sichuan LeShan mountain and the Dual Que out of the ZhaoHua city remind us to change the traditional standpoint.2． Different positiong , different usage The usage of tile in the Han dynasty grave is mainly divided into two aspects: in the grave and above the grave. Because of the different position, the function is absolutely different, which can be divided into: (1) The tile which mainly have practical function and have an adornment function as well, is regarded as a component of the building above the grave it and practical tile.(2)The tile which mainly has adornment function, and make building integrity, is regarded as a constructive component inside the grave.(3) The tile is regarded as an article with bury, whose characteristic maybe a symbol of another world dwelling place.(4) The tile is regarded as the article of mat coffin, having a mat function.(5)The tile, which is sprout from the sealing door, roadway and around the coffin, mainly has a reinforcement, guarded against theft function.3. Three related problem researches of the usage of tile in Han dynasty grave(1) The usage of the tile in the Han dynasty reflects the race relation. Both Central plain’s grave and Huns’ grave utilize the constructive material against theft. But The Huns person mainly make use of a slab of stone. During the two races’ turbulent period, a great deal of tile usage is to guard against theft.(2) The tile has the assistance function of distinguishing the grade of the grave in Han dynasty.The etiquette in Han Dynasty is severe. The person, who was brought into inside 20 feudal titlessystems while was alive, his status is represented by the grade of his grave. While the writer is analyzing the material, the writer discovers that:A: whether the tile exists or not relies on the boiling above the grave and its quantity lies on the scale of the building. So the tile assists to distinguish the grade of the grave in a certain degree.B: The different grade of the grave utilizes the different tile word in the building above the grave. And the same grade is similar. So the tile word benefit the distinguishing the grade of the grave. 3. A great deal of the usage of tile represent the mind of person. A great deal of the usage of Han dynasty tile may be the continuity of the dead soul is deathless,going to heaven as a fairy to ascend heaven.
