In ancient China, the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty has always been a historical era of considerable attention, both politically and literarily. Yan Song, well-known for his infamous role as a corrupt official, is particularly associated with this period. While the academic community has produced extensive research on the politics and literature of the Jiajing era, much of it has focused on the early Jiajing period, including the "Rites Controversy," the literary groups such as the "Seven Masters of the Querulous Bamboo," and the "Tang-Song School." However, there is a lack of comprehensive study on the political writings during the later stages of Yan Song's dominance in the mid-to-late Jiajing period. Moreover, the political writings of other significant political figures during this time have not been thoroughly explored. This article attempts to fill this gap by using Yan Song's period of influence as a temporal reference point. It focuses on the central civil officials led by Yan Song as the main writing subjects, with an emphasis on their political writings during this period. The aim is to comprehensively investigate the political writing issues in the later stages of the Jiajing era when Yan Song held power. The study delves into how the civil officials of that time engaged in political writing under the influence of a powerful political figure and examines the historical conditions of powerful courtiers wielding political authority.

Firstly, an overview of the overall political situation and the cultural atmosphere during the reign of Yan Song is presented, revealing the unique political environment and imperial authority of the Jiajing period. Secondly, from the perspective of the writing subjects, the political writings of Yan Song himself and the central civil officials are discussed separately. Analyzing the choice of writing content and the strategies of political writing, it outlines how Yan Song, positioned as an extremely powerful minister, utilized political writing as a medium to achieve his political goals during the two decades at the center of political power. The political writings surrounding Yan Song, including other cabinet ministers and the censorate officials playing important political roles at that time, indirectly construct the political ecology and power distribution of the period. Furthermore, prose political writings from different political stances reflect the structural processes of different political factions and the political choices of officials.

Finally, beyond the political figures with different responsibilities and positions as the main subjects of political writing, two particularly important and typical political events from the past twenty years, namely the Hebei River Reclamation and the Zhang Jing incident during the anti-Japanese war, are selected as the objects of writing. By tracking and re-presenting the entire process of their occurrence and development, this article dynamically connects the roles and functions of political writing in political events.

Taking the relationship between politics and literature as the underlying logic, this article partially breaks through the traditional research boundaries of "pure literature" in ancient literature studies. It focuses on the study of important literary forms in the political operation of ancient China, such as memorials, petitions, proclamations, letters, etc., as objects of political writing. The aim is to depict the political writing panorama of prose during the period of Yan Song's dominance, using people and events as coordinates and presenting a comprehensive and three-dimensional portrayal of political writing in the operation of ancient Chinese politics.
