This study aimed to assess the factors influencing family business operations in Sierra Leone and focuses on factors associated with family business success. The research was conducted in Sierra Leone, with the northern city of Makeni as the case study. The research comprised a total of 100 participants, with 65 individual participants chosen from the family business sector and the remaining 35 participants from the non-family business. Participants were selected from the three business hubs in Sierra Leone: Freetown, Waterloo, and Makeni.

To achieve the research objectives, the researcher uses a qualitative approach (case study) that uses primary data from questionnaires and secondary data from existing literature such as reports, magazines, radio program recordings, and books. For this purpose, an open-ended questionnaire using the Likert Scale technique covering the study's objectives was developed. Structured interview analysis was conducted using phone conversations, email exchanges, WhatsApp conversations, and other available social media platforms. Results from direct interviews (data) were processed and analyzed using regression on SPSS and Excel, and the presentation was done via charts and tables.

Our findings reveal that 49% of entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone financed their businesses themselves, 35% borrowed money to start their businesses, 11% got grants from government programs, and 4% got support through equity. 64% of entrepreneurs cited high-interest rates as an SME challenge in Serra Leone. About 54% of surveyed entrepreneurs cited high interest rates, collateral requirements, and administrative requirements as the biggest obstacles to obtaining loans from financial banks. Of 82% of respondents, 38% of entrepreneurs cited corruption as a critical challenge, while 33% cited the absence of legal protection as their top barrier.

Based on the regression result, we can conclude that GDP, Market Condition, Social emotional Wealth, and Governance Structure are statistically significant factors or predictors of Financial Performance, the dependent variable. On the other hand, Family Interference and Succession Planning do not appear to be statistically significant predictors of the dependent variable.
