八思巴弟子智幢（Ye shes rgyal mtshan）于1283年写成《先师法王大宝传记·大宝珠鬘》（Bla ma dam pa chos kyi rgyal po rin po che’i rnam par thar pa rin po che’i phreng ba），录于《道果学释》（Lam ‘bras slob bshad）之中，为八思巴藏语传记之滥觞。半世纪后，福德幢（Bla ma dam pa bSod nams rgyal mtshan）又造《上师传承传记·希有显现》（Bla ma brgyud pa’i rnam par thar pa ngo mtshar nang ba），其中也有八思巴简传。17世纪语自在庆喜福德（A myes zhabs Ngag dbang kun dga’ bsod nams）造《萨思迦世系史》（Sa skya gdung rabs chen mo）其中他多次称引前者。此三者构成了八思巴传记传统之主线。智幢并未言及八思巴受具足戒、赴五台山学法的情况，而根据其他文献中所示相关诸人物关系，我们亦不能武断否认晚出文献中的详细记载。《萨思迦世系史》的八思巴传记与智幢所作传记有若干平行段落，其叙事次序及修辞都极为相似，可见智幢所作传记乃后人撰述八思巴生平之重点资料。

A biography composed in 1283 by one of ‘Phags pa bla ma’s disciple, Ye shes rgyal mtshan, named “Bla ma dam pa chos kyi rgyal po rin po che’i rnam par thar pa rin po che’i phreng ba” was in the collection of Lam ‘bras slob bshad. About half a century later, Bla ma dam pa bSod nams rgyal mtshan finished his “Bla ma brgyud pa’i rnam par thar pa ngo mtshar nang ba” inclunding a brief biography of ‘Phags pa, which was frequently referred to by A myes zhabs Ngag dbang kun dga’ bsod nams for his tome Sa skya gdung rabs chen mo. Above-mentioned three texts consist of the main tradition of ‘Phags pa bla ma’s biography. In Ye shes rgyal mtshan’s composition, ‘Phags pa’s ordination as a bhikṣu was absent, which cannot be considered as a later tout en force forgery due to the personal relationships of related ones reflected by other sources, which is also the case that ‘Phags pa was once residing in Mount Wutai for study. The biography in Sa skya gdung rabs chen mo has several parallel paragraphs with the one by Ye shes rgyal mtshan, including similarities of both narration and rhetoric, in that the 1283 biography was a focal reference of later ones.
