阅读教学是语文教学中的重、难点，是历次语文教学改革的重要方面。在新世纪的课程改革中，语文的教学目标划分为“知识和能力”、“过程和方法”、“情感态度和价值观”三个方面，在以往的课程标准（教学大纲）和教学过程中，“知识和能力”、“情感态度和价值观”这两方面都得到了足够的重视，唯有“过程和方法”这一方面一直被忽视。语文阅读教学没有建立起“方法意识”，也没有成系统的教学方法可循。因此，要完善阅读教学方法，必须参考学习百年来语文阅读教学积累的理论财富。其中，叶圣陶的“略读”阅读教学理论是不能忽视的阅读教学方法。略读教学是以教师为主导、学生为主体的教学方法（虽然叶圣陶没有明确点出，但是“两主”的教学思想是渗透在他的主张中的），其中，教师的指导要“提纲挈领，期其自得”。阅读方法分为版本指导、序目指导、参考书籍指导、各种文体阅读策略指导和阅读中的问题意识指导，非常细致地、准确地阐明了略读教学的步骤。略读教学的目标是学生在校时，能够自由阅读课本与选文之外的书籍文章；学生走上社会，一辈子能有自由阅读各种书籍文章的能力，不至于没有教师的指导，学生无法有效阅读。本文是对叶圣陶阅读教学方法的研究，关键问题是怎样结合《课程标准》赋予“略读”的阅读教学方法以时代性，并能发掘出它的实践意义，用来指导当今的阅读教学。本文首先深入地把握叶圣陶的关于阅读教学的“略读”方法的实质内涵。对照《课程标准》，发现当今阅读教学中有关略读教学的创新和不足。由于阅读教学本身的困难性，在当今的阅读教学中，很有必要学习叶圣陶的“略读”阅读教学方法，它对改善当今阅读教学将会有巨大的作用。同时，积极发掘理论的实践意义，总结叶圣陶略读教学理论对当今阅读教学的启示，挖掘略读教学理论的当代价值。
