清末民初是中国历史上金石学兴盛活跃的时期，诞生了大批金石学家，并有多部著作相继问世。在众多著作等身的金石学者当中，郭玉堂是卓有成就的一位。他亲访碑拓，搜集了大量的珍贵碑志和拓本，为我国墓志文献的保存和公立文献收藏机构的民间采集做出了巨大的贡献；在访碑的同时，他考证器物的出土时地，保证了金石文献来源的可靠性，扩大了金石研究的外延，并以此进一步提高了金石文献在史学研究和考古调查中的利用价值。他的实践活动为中国传统金石学与近代考古学的融合搭起了桥梁。因此，研究郭玉堂的金石活动，不仅对于金石学研究具有重要意义，而且对于考古学、历史学的考证研究都具有重要的参考价值。本文结合时代社会背景，以郭玉堂本人的金石活动为主线，主要从两个方面进行论述。首先，郭玉堂的金石搜访活动。在充分把握郭玉堂生平和对其著述深入研究的基础上，梳理他搜访金石的途径和归属，肯定其在文献保护中的价值和作用；其次，郭玉堂对金石文献的整理与研究。在对他的著述进行研究的基础上，从考证时地、鉴别真伪、编目著录和编辑志书四个方面，论述其金石文献整理与研究的成就，并分析各部著述的价值所在，详细论述了他考证时地的价值和影响。最后，系统整理本文的研究成果，并提出本文的不足之处和下一步值得深入探讨的问题，希望人们在今后的学术研究中能够进一步挖掘郭玉堂著述的价值，利用他对古器物出土时地的考证记录，为史学研究和中国传统文化的研究服务。

The period between the end of Qing Dynasty and early republic of China was the most prosperous period of epigraphy in Chinese history. Many experts and books about epigraphy appeared at that time. Mr. Yutang Guo was one of the famous experts who had great achievement in epigrapht research. He visited the location of inscriptions and collected thousands of precious inscriptions, and made the greatest contribution to the preservation of stone literature for public collectors. Meanwhile, Yutang Guo made a textual study about where and when inscriptions were found. His study ensured the reliability of the source of stones, and then expanded the range of inscription properties research. The stone inscriptions’ utility value contributed a lot to history research and archaeology research. Therefore the study of Yutang Guo’s epigraphy activities would have great means to both epigraphy and archaeology.Combined with the social background, the thesis is going to have two points discussed. Firstly, Yutang Guo’s seeking for metal and stone inscriptions. This part will study and analyze Yutang Guo’s life and his works, hence make his inscriptions’ seeking approaches and adscriptions clearly. This discussion will help us to recognize his positive role in document preservation. The second part will talk about Yutang Guo’s study on inscriptions. Based on the analysis of his works, we will discuss his accomplishment of stone inscriptions research from four aspects of which are textual researching of where and when stones were found, identification of authenticity, cataloging and writing local records, as well as mining the characteristics. Finally, the article brings forward the direction for further discussion according to our research, hoping that we could excavate more values of Yutang Guo’s books to our scientific study. It provides uncommon information for history research and Chinese culture.
