陆贽是唐德宗时期的杰出宰相，他在文学和政治上都拥有非凡的建树，在奉天之难期间为德宗平定内乱做出了贡献，登上相位后却失去了德宗的信任，最终贬官、去世于忠州。从唐代到宋代，他的形象经历了种种变化。唐代陆贽形象呈现混乱的特点：《顺宗实录》、《翰苑集序》等作品中把陆贽描绘成一个拥有卓越能力却被德宗抛弃的贤臣，《上清传》、《唐国史补》中描绘了他奸邪、褊急的一面，这些形象与唐德宗大权独揽、猜疑群臣下特殊的政治环境密不可分；《旧唐书》中的陆贽形象支离破碎，又比唐代略显软弱，原因在于其史源是唐代的官方记录，剪辑编排中缺少整体构思；宋代文人普遍推崇陆贽，《新唐书》中陆贽的形象是忠于皇帝、勤于劝谏的道德模范，原因首先是《陆贽集》的重新出世，其次是欧阳修在思考文学和朋党斗争中形成的文道观和朋党观，更和北宋对“忠”的提倡、古文运动的兴起相互关联。陆贽形象的变化是不同时期政治环境变化的体现，也和文化因素密切相关。

Lu Chih was an important premier with excellent abilities in both politics and literature during the period of Tang Te-tsung. When Te-sung was in Feng-t’ien, Lu’s abilities were used in helping the emperor to quell civil war. After bacoming the premier, Lu lost the trust from the emperor, then he was exiled to,eventually died in Chung-chou. His literature images had been changing from the Tang to the Song dynasty. In Tang dynasty, images were confused:he was a deserted and virtuous minister with extraordinary ability in Shun-tsung shih-lu and Lu Chih Chi-hsü,but a evil,narrow-minded and treacherous minister in Shang Ch’ing Chan, T’ang Kuo-shih-pu,etc. These images were largely because of special political environment under the centralizing power and suspicion of Te-tsung. There was a fragmented,a little cowardly image in Chiu T’ang-shu due to editing and rearrangement without ingenuity design. Literators in Song Dynasty generally worship Lu,and in Hsin Tang-shu,Lu was a ethical model who were loyal and always remonstrated to the emperor. The first reason is the refound of the Lu Chih Chi. Secondly, Ou-yang Hsiu formed his concept of clique and writing-ethics through thinking about literature and politics. More important is this image was connected with promotion of loyalty in Song dynasty and prosperity of ancient Chinese prose movement. This changing of Lu Chih’s images reflect different political environment,and it has been influenced by cultural factor.
