现如今，越来越多的道德争论出现在公共视野中，麦金太尔认为这是道德权威的丧失，这意味着社会已经陷入道德危机。纵观自德性概念出现以来的自我观念和社会结构，这两者在启蒙运动之后已经发生了根本性的改变，哲学家们对道德哲学的关注也从道德准则有什么变成了道德之于人类社会为什么合理。麦金太尔仔细梳理了关于德性的道德语言从产生之初一直到现代的历史沿袭，并将这种转变与社会学紧密结合在一起，得出了这种变化的原因是以亚里士多德目的论为核心的传统德性的消失，因此，解决道德危机的要义就在于恢复德性传统。由此，麦金太尔提出了德性与实践、个人整体生活和传统相联系的德性论思想。

Nowadays, more and more ethical debates have occurred into the public arena, Alasdair Macintyre thought this was a loss of moral authority, which mean that the society has been stuck into the crisis of morality. Throughout the concept of self and the structure of the society since the concept of “Tugend” appeared, these two had changed thoroughly, philosophers’ focus of moral philosophy also changed from what the specific content in code of ethics are to why the morality is reasonable towards human society. Macintyre summarized carefully about the change of moral language in “Tugend” from hero society to modern society, analyst this change with sociology, attributed this kind of change to the disappearance of Aristotle’s teleology, so that the key to solve moral crisis is to recover the tradition of teleology. In conclusion, Macintyre figure out his own moral philosophy, which is the connection between virtue and practice, character utility and tradition.
