外文题名: | A Semantic and Cultural Connotations Study in Mental Related Idioms from Translated Buddhist Scriptures |

According to this semantic and cultural connotations study, there are lots of Buddhist translated words that transformed into Chinese idioms. This phenomenon reflects the influence of Buddhism on Chinese language. In modern Chinese, there are lots of high frequency idioms originated from Buddhism, such as “bukesiyi”, “buzhibujue”, “yixinyiyi”. This means that the idioms play an important role in modern Chinese. This study selected five idioms which originated from Buddhism, for example “bukesiyi”, “buzhibujue”, “yixinyiyi”, “jiedahuanxi” and “wutitoudi” to study their semantic and cultural connotations. This research found that these idioms have their own meaning and connotations in Buddhist scriptures which differentiated from modern Chinese. The first word “bukesiyi” has meaning of “the state that people’s mental power cannot reach”, or “non thinking state of mind” which related to Sunyata;the second word “buzhibujue” has meaning of “unrealize”, “cannot realize the true dharma”, and “being unaware”. The third word “yixinyiyi” has meaning of “samadhi” or “with one heart”. The fourth word “jiedahuanxi” has meaning of “being strongly joyful”. “wutitoudi” which is the last word has connotations of “collecting merits” .
