米歇尔·希翁(Michel Chion)是当代声音艺术和听觉文化研究领域重要的理论家,也是重要的电影艺术家和电子音乐作曲家。他的理论贡献主要可以分为两大部分:“听觉学”和电影视听理论。听觉学研究我们感知到的一切声音,把声音从物理-生理现象引入到了心理和文化的领域,主要解决声音是什么、怎么样和我们如何聆听的问题。电影视听理论认为影像与声音是不可分割的整体,不仅只是讨论电影,实则也在探索视觉和听觉如何共同塑造我们的感知世界,因此同样可以归入听觉学之中。 本文首先提出声音与听觉是一体两面的和单一维度的幻象,接着讨论听觉的多种模式——源起聆听、编码聆听、还原聆听与埃尔格听觉,以及噪音和语音的复杂性与特殊性。然后以声音技术给人类听觉带来的变化为背景,引出“声音物体”的概念和创建 “听觉学”的设想,包括听觉学的两项首要工作——分类与命名。电影理论部分以影像与声音的合约关系为起点,通过增值效果、同步整合、渲染等方式,形成了电影世界的三重现实,以及视听不和谐的特殊状况——无声源角色、沉默图像和重写本效应等。最后,本文试图从综艺节目《声临其境》和喜剧电影《夏洛特烦恼》、《西虹市首富》这三个当代大众文化文本中,发现其与希翁理论话语的相互印证之处,显示出希翁的声音理论在大众文化研究中具有的适用性和启发性。 希翁的思想新颖独特、富有开创性,不仅用“听觉学”这一新课题把对声音的系统化研究引入了人文学科领域,为新兴的听觉文化研究创造了理论话语;而且唤起了人们对声音现象的重视,有助于提高声音和听觉在人类感知模式中的地位,对电影、音乐、大众文化和媒介文化研究也会带来不同程度的启发。

Michel Chion is an important theorist in the field of contemporary sound art and sound studies, who is also a film artist and electronic music composer. His theoretical contribution can be divided into two main parts: acoulogy and film audiovisual theory. Acoulogy studies all the sounds we perceive, introducing sound from physical-physiological phenomena to psychological and cultural perspectives. It mainly deals with what and how sound is, as well as how we listen. Film audiovisual theory holds the point that image and sound are inseparable as a whole. Which seems to be discussing movies only, but it explores how vision and hearing together shape our perceptual world as well. Therefore, it can also be included in acoulogy. This thesis firstly proposes that sound and hearing are one thing with two sides, which are one-dimensional illusions. Then it turns to some patterns of hearing: causual listening, coding listening, reduced listening, and ergo-audition, also the complexity and particularity of noise and voice. In the background of the changes of hearing made by sound technology, the next part introduces the concept of "sound object" and the idea of creating "acoulogy", including two main tasks: classification and naming. The part of film theory is started with the relationship of contract between image and sound, then the triple reality of the film world has formed by means of added value, synchresis and rendering, as well as the situation of audio-visual discordance, such as acousmêtre, athorybos, and palimpsest effect. The last part is consisted of the close reading of three texts of contemporary mass culture, The Sound, Goodbye Mr. Loser and Hello Mr. Billionaire, trying to discover the mutual confirmation with Chion’s theory, which can reveal its usability and inspiration in the field of cultural studies. Chion’s thoughts are original, unique and pioneering. Not only has he introduced the systematic study of sound into humanities with the new discipline "acoulogy", but also created a theoretical discourse for the new area of sound studies. Furthermore, he has aroused people's attention to the phenomenon of sound, which is helpful to improve the status of sound and hearing in human perception. His thoughts will inspire the research of film, music mass culture and media culture.
