阿米阿努斯•马塞利努斯被誉为罗马帝国最后一位古典史家。其著作《英雄业绩》基本涵盖了公元353至378年间发生在罗马帝国内外的政治、军事等重大事件。后世学者对这一著作研究颇多，褒贬不一。由于阿米阿努斯是帝国后期许多重大历史事件的见证者，因此鉴别该作品的真实性意义重大。本文试图在研读古典文本的基础上，对阿米阿努斯作品的史学价值进行探讨，以便得出自己独立的看法。全文共分三章。第一章简要介绍作者的个人生平，回顾作品的创作背景与过程。作者是一名热爱罗马文化的希腊人，文学修养极佳，同时又是宫廷卫队军官，军事经验丰富，还享有较高的社会地位。这些因素促使他形成了独有的史学思想与写作方法。第二章着重对原著做文本分析。首先按叙述顺序，对其中叙述历史事件的主体部分，特别是有作者亲自参与的章节加以剖析，同时结合现代学者的研究，讨论这部分内容涉及的史料来源与真伪；其次是从实例出发，评析原著中有关地理、民族、自然科学，以及罗马城与罗马元老阶层的插叙部分，探究作者在编排上的规律与用意，确定插叙内容与主题之间的呼应关系，挖掘原著的深层信息。第三章以当代人的视角对这部作品做出评价，尝试体悟作者的真实想法，分析原著的史学价值。阿米阿努斯继承了古典史家的治学精神与写史原则，用生动的语言为后人再现了较为真实的历史原貌，保存了诸多有关晚期罗马帝国的重要信息。《英雄业绩》可以说是一部可信可读的历史佳作。

Ammianus Marcellinus is honored as the last classical historian of the Roman Empire. His work Res Gestae essentially covers the political, military and other affairs which happened inside and outside the Roman Empire during AD 353 and 378. The later scholars had studied very much and passed different judgments on it. For Ammianus had been a witness of many great historical events during the later Empire. It has a great significance for authenticating the reality of the text. The analysis of this thesis is based on the classical text, tries to discuss the historiographical value of this work, and reaches independent conclusions finally. This thesis contains three chapters. The first chapter introduces the life of the author briefly, reviews the creating and the background of this work. The author was a Greek who loved Roman culture deeply, had a good training on literature. At the same time he was an officer of protectors et domestici, had some kind of social status. Those make whose special historical thoughts and writing method.The second chapter focuses on the textual analysis. First, enumerates and analyses the representation about the main history in narrating order, especially the first-person statements in the work, using the achievements of modern scholars as reference, draws a conclusion on the credibility and origin; second, based on the examples discuss the topics on geography, ethnology, nature philosophy, the Rome city and the Class of Senator, finds out the purpose and regularity of the arranging, confirms that they serve for the theme of this work, digs out the deeper information of this work.The third chapter reaches a conclusion of this work in the modern angle, tries to comprehend the real thoughts of the author, and analyses the historiographical value of the work. Ammianus inherits the spirits and principles of classical historians, reappearances the history with vivid statements, conserves much important information about the later Roman Empire. Res Gestae is a readable and faithful excellent historical work.
