To Kill a Mockingbird is a masterpiece written by Harper Lee, a female writer from the American South. Through the perspective of a little girl, Scout, Harper Lee realistically portrays a small southern American town during the Great Depression, presenting the brutal social realities of racial discrimination, social hierarchy, and sexism at that time, and representing her moral and humanistic concern for society and life. Scout, who is the protagonist and narrator of the novel, gives charm to this novel with her children's narrative. Focusing on the children's perspective in To Kill a Mockingbird, through a combination of close reading and theoretical interpretation, this paper studies the children's perspective and its application in the portrayal of female images, and further analyses the aesthetic effect and thematic significance presented by this technique. Firstly, children's perspective is an innovation from the traditional adult perspective and has unique literary value. Secondly, this paper selects three typical female characters in the novel: Miss Maudie, Mrs. Dubose, and Mayella Ewell, to interpret their images from children’s perspective and explore their influence on Scout's growth. Finally, the children's perspective allows the tension of polyphony, defamiliarization effect, and poetic language in the portrayal of the female characters, and reveals their social status calmly and realistically, which enhances the novel's artistic charm and literary value.
