海子认为伟大的诗歌是主体人类在某一瞬间突入自身的宏伟，是主体人类在原始力量中的一次性诗歌行动，而“伟大的诗歌”即是区别于小诗和诗意状态的真正的诗——大诗。在《太阳·土地篇》中，他意欲从原始材料的构建中召唤出集体人类与伟大诗歌的原始力量，进而创造出超越死亡与永生的伟大的“当代大诗”。本文以意象及其内涵分析为着力点，以更好地理解海子的长诗创作与他浓厚的“土地情结”为目标。其中，人物类意象分为老人意象、少女意象和王子意象，动物类意象分为豹子意象和羊意象，身体类分为子宫意象和头颅意象，自然类意象分为土地意象和家园意象。意象研究是拆解原始材料、还原原始力量的有的放矢、行之有效的研究方法，既可以关照基础的诗歌语言，在文本内探寻“细枝末节”，又能在文本外进行系统的比较。三个层面相互叠加互补，我们可以更好地对海子的长诗写作、创作风格及诗歌理想有更加具体、扎实和宏观的阐释，还原其“诗歌之王”的伟大秘密。
