 A REPORT ON THE TRANSLATION OF RHETORICAL DEVICES IN CHILDREN’S BOOK EXTREME PLANET

本文是笔者完成“孤独星球”系列儿童读物《世界之最》的汉译后就其中修辞格的翻译所做的一篇报告。翻译本书时,笔者遇到不少有趣的修辞,也陷入了各式各样的翻译困局。在查阅有关文献、请教他人的基础上,结合已有的翻译经验深入思考,最终完成本书的翻译工作,同时,在儿童读物的修辞格翻译上获得了些许心得,写成本篇项目报告。本报告分为四章,第一章介绍了本次翻译项目的整体情况;第二章在分析儿童读物语言特点的基础上,探讨儿童读物中修辞格的使用特点,概括出适当的翻译技巧,如儿童读物中修辞格的翻译用语不宜超出儿童的理解范围;第三章是本篇翻译报告的重点,展示了《世界之最》中一些代表性的修辞格案例,结合原文与译文、作者的写作思路与译者的翻译思路,分析比较翻译效果,得出恰当的译文;最后一章是笔者对儿童读物中修辞格翻译的一些启发与感想,希望有益于今后的翻译实践。总而言之,笔者认为,翻译儿童读物中的修辞格时,译者须注重对童趣的把握与诠释。
外文摘要:
This is a translation report with regard to the translation of the rhetorical devices in a children’s book Extreme planet. In its translation the translator met with a lot of interesting rhetorical devices, and encountered various difficulties. After persistent reading and thinking, the translator finally managed to complete the translation project and at the same time gained some experience in the translation of rhetorical devices in children’s books. The report is divided into four parts. The first chapter is about the introduction of the whole translation project; the second chapter discusses the features of rhetorical devices in children’s books, and according to these features appropriate translation skills are taken to solve the concrete translation problems; the third chapter, as the critical part of the report, shows some representative cases in the book and after detailed analysis gives the suitable translation; the fourth chapter is the conclusion about the translation of the rhetorical devices in children’s books as well as valuable experience the translator gained through this project. In a word, interestingness is always the top priority in the translation of rhetorical devices in children’s books.
