This paper explores the rise, development, challenges, and future strategies of online micro-dramas in the contemporary cultural context from the perspective of the play theory of communication. It first outlines the research background and significance, indicating that with the popularity of new media and the rapid development of the internet, online micro-dramas, as an emerging form of cultural product, play a significant role in disseminating entertainment culture and meeting the fragmented reading needs of audiences. However, alongside its rapid growth, it also faces challenges such as content homogenization and lack of cultural significance.

The paper analyzes the characteristics of online micro-dramas in narrative strategies, audience demands, and communication environment from the perspective of communication game theory. It finds that online micro-dramas attract a large audience and achieve significant market benefits in a short period by employing a narrative strategy characterized by pan-entertainment, meeting audiences' self-pleasing needs, and utilizing diverse communication environments. However, the pursuit of "spreading joy" leads to shallow content and lack of cultural significance, and the negative impact of excessive immersive revelry on the audience also hampers its further development.

To address these issues, the paper proposes countermeasures such as reducing "orgiastic" subcultural pastiches, strengthening cultural significance, and emphasizing game rules, aiming to promote the development of online micro-dramas towards higher quality and healthier directions. Furthermore, the paper explores the real-life impacts of the development of online micro-dramas, including the diversification of individualized nodes and the narrowing of cultural divides, demonstrating the significant role of online micro-dramas in contemporary cultural communication.
