圣王功成治定，制礼作乐，用以别亲疏、定尊卑、和上下、乐万民。后世纷繁，淫乱迭出，遂使雅乐倾颓，教化不再。孔子感于时事，思夫先王，因欲正定礼乐，以挽乱邦。墨子见世乱民哀，以乐之兴实由人之耽乐，至于新声竞起、邦国不治，故必废舞止乐，以救苍生。乐确有教化怡情之功，于人之定性成德益助良多，然滥音溺辞亦害人匪浅。后世放荡无忌，多以乐淫乐，而教化之功罕见，故孔子删定六经，期以将来，墨子矫枉杜源、永绝后患。今时情状尤甚当年，取乐以外几无他用，求直者必过其正，宁尽废乐，以清积弊。

When the ancient emperor established the center government, rites were set as Music to distinguish the closeness of relationship, identify people's dignity, boost the harmony of the entire government and please all the people. However, in the next generations, numerous prurience appeared and it led to the depravation of ritual Music and the loss of morality. Impressed by the circumstances at that time, Confucius recalled the former emperor and wanted to standardize the ritual Music to save the turbid country. Being sense of the chaotic society and the sorrow of people, Mo-tse believed that it was Music that led to the depravation of the country and people; hence, Music should be forbidden to save the people. Music really functions to moralize and help people to develop virtues. However, it can function more than that so as to harm people by immoral entertainment. Since the following generations were dissipated and even over pleasing themselves by music with the function of moralizing disappearing, Confucius deleted Music to form six classical arts in the hope that it can help the following generations. Besides, the Mo-tse redressed the wrong and shut the origin of immorality to solve the problem and prevent it from happening again. The current affairs are much more serious than the situation mentioned before with the society almost full of entertainment. The author hope that the bad ethos can be fixed and destroy immoral entertainment to clean the accumulated problem.
