在物种鉴别网的基础上，本文建立了常见贸易物种识别数据库，包括龟鳖类、兽类、蛙蛇类、鸟类及部分兰科植物等物种的基本信息，从而为执法人员及公众提供一个便捷的搜索平台与服务，以期达到提高公众对野生动物保护的意识以及实现对常见贸易物种及时有效的管理，尤其是对一些查处的非法贸易物种的鉴别与监管。 对野生动物资源现状的介绍依据物种鉴定网将中国分为六大地理区域，通过收集到的贸易新闻信息，介绍各区域的野生动物贸易现状及野生动物贸易特点，并分析物种受威胁的程度、执法重点、以及物种贸易的差异，为野生动物贸易及保护执法工作提供依据。 本文还针对重点贸易物种，国家二级保护动物穿山甲(Manis pentadactyla)，介绍其资源状况、资源受威胁程度，并且根据贸易数据，阐述其资源来源地、资源中转地、主要的消费区域和贸易路线，分析物种受威胁的主要原因，据此提出保护建议与对策。
