近些年来,中国高等教育系统经历了大规模的扩张。高等学校招生率从1991年的3%上升到了2010年的27%。在过去的20年当中,大量学生被招收进入高等教育机构。中华人民共和国教育部预计在2020年的时候,将这个招生率提升到40%。这也就意味着越来越多的学生将有机会接受高等教育。 本研究采用定性研究方法,同时以半结构式访谈来调查学生在不同招生系统下的择校经历。在不同地区有三种不同的招生制度:第一类,学生在高考之前选择大学;第二类,学生在高考之后成绩出来之前选择大学;第三类,学生在高考成绩出来之后选择大学。 学生在基础教育阶段勤奋学习,进入好的大学,这也许能够保证他们有一个更好的未来。然而,有些学生在高中时候的努力却得不到对等的结果。通过第三种方式选择大学的学生与另外两类相比较有优势。第一类和第二类制度下面的学生感觉到不公平,因为他们高考的实际分数可能要高于他们的预估分数。他们要想在选择大学的比赛中胜出,要受到很多影响因素。主要影响开始于他们的基础教育,这也许能在他们选择大学时候提供帮助,与其它学校相比,拥有丰富资源的好大学能为学生提供更多的机会。有良好家庭背景的学生有更多的机会去为择校做准备。父母的教育和期望对于指导孩子是必不可少的。学生的个体差异和对招生制度的理解同样非常重要。

China has done a great development in the expansion of higher education system in recent years. The enrollments rate has increased from 3% in 1991 to 27% in 2010 at higher education institutions. Ministry of Education has projected to increase this enrollment to 40% by 2020 which means progressively more students will get opportunities to get higher education. China has practiced a lot of reforms and new policies during this massive expansion of its higher education system. The main purpose to make these reforms is not only to expand its higher education but also bring fairness to the enrollment so that every student gets fair access to higher education. This study has used qualitative method with semi-structured interviews to investigate the students‟ experience with different enrollment systems during their choice making process of higher education. There are three different categories of enrollment systems for students to make choice of universities in different regions: first category, students choose university before taking Gao-kao; second category, students make choice after taking Gao-kao but before their grades have been announced; third category, students make choice of university after announcement of their grades. Students work really hard during basic education to get admission in good universities which may guarantee their better future. However, some students don’t get the equal results to their hard work in high school. Students from third category get some advantage for choosing university compared to other two categories. Students from first and second category feel this system unfair because their score in Gao-kao possibly will be above their estimation. A lot of factors influence students experience during their choice making process for university to win the competition. Main influence actually initiates from their basic education which help them during choice of universities. Different schools have different facilities for students which offer different opportunities for students. Good schools enriched with facilities offer better opportunities to students comparing to other schools. Students from good family background get more opportunities to develop and prepare themselves for higher education. Parents‟ education and expectations are also very essential to guide their children. Students‟ personal differences and understanding of the enrollment system is also very significant during their selection process.
