影视作品是典型的多模态语篇,需要同时调用视觉、听觉等不同感官。因此,译者在进行字幕翻译时需要考虑多种模态,使字幕能够全面地传达源语的效果。本文以战争电影《八佰》为例,基于张德禄多模态语篇分析理论框架的四个方面探讨了字幕翻译的利弊,并总结出了该电影字幕翻译的几条规律。

例如,在文化层面,面对目标受众所不了解的中国历史文化,字幕翻译往往采用归化的方法,因为异化有时很难准确地传达源语想要表达的意思。在语境层面,为了更好地串联情节,我们可以用增译的方法来解释源语中没有被特别说明的内容。在内容层面,如果字幕文本和其他模态共同表情达意,那么译者通常会采用略译策略。在表达层面,为了考虑源语画面的持续时间,多采用略译策略。

   因此,字幕翻译应综合考虑多重符号因素,引导外国观众感受根植于另一文化语境中的民族精神和文化底蕴,在跨文化交际的环境下,更好地将中国文化推向世界。

Subtitle translation is indispensable in cross-cultural communication for foreign audiences to understand the content and the spirit of the film. However, only the language conversion of subtitles cannot fully and accurately interpret the cultural and social connotations.

Film and television works are typical multi-modal discourse, which needs to invoke different senses such as vision and hearing at the same time. Therefore, translators need to take multiple modes into consideration when performing subtitle translation, so that subtitles can comprehensively convey the effect of the source language. Taking the war film The Eight Hundred as an example, this paper explores the advantages and disadvantages of the subtitle translation based on the four aspects of Zhang Delu's multimodal discourse analysis theoretical framework, and summarises several rules of the subtitle translation.

For example, at the cultural level, in the face of Chinese history and culture unknown to the target audience, domestication is often adopted in subtitle translation. Because foreignization is sometimes difficult to accurately convey the meaning of the source language. At the context level, in order to better connect the plot, we can use the method of amplification to explain the content of the source language that is not pointed out. At the content level, if the subtitle text and other modes express the meaning together, then the translator usually adopts the translation strategy of omission. At the expression level, in order to consider the duration of the source language picture, the strategy of omission is often adopted.

Therefore, subtitle translation should comprehensively consider multiple symbolic factors, guide the audience to feel the national spirit and cultural heritage rooted in another cultural context, and better promote the Chinese culture to the world under the environment of cross-cultural communication.
