Technical barriers to trade are one of the major obstacles to China's international trade. If our country suffers from technical barriers to trade, export trade will be restricted. However, it is not clear whether China's autonomous notification of TBTs has had an impact on the country's import volume. To this end, this paper uses macro trade data with 10 countries from 2002 to 2020 to examine whether China's notified TBTs inhibit import activity, and modifies the trade gravity model for empirical testing. The results of the study indicate that China's notified TBTs have a significant negative impact on import volumes. Based on this, we propose recommendations at the national level and at the level of importing firms.
