资本是现代资本主义社会的核心和灵魂,也是马克思一生研究和批判对象——资本主义生产关系的重要范畴。资本以其强大的力量推动了社会历史的变革,但也成为实现人的自由发展和彻底解放的桎梏,马克思对其进行了深刻批判。从马克思生活的时代至今,资本作为“资产阶级社会的支配一切的经济权力”,宛如“普照的光”和幽灵般存在,不仅在资本主义国家取得统治地位,而且对当代中国发展也产生广泛而深刻的影响;不仅没有退出历史的舞台,反而以新的存在样态造成了人的生存的新的异化问题。因此,解决现实中存在的一系列发展难题就需要我们从人的解放高度重新审视马克思的资本权力批判。

历史唯物主义认为,任何事物都不是凭空产生的,而是根源于历史的和现实的土壤之中。资本权力也不是天然存在的,而是历史发展的产物,是历史性、现实性、关系性、非理性等多重因素共同作用的结果。从内生性看,资本权力的生成历经从商品、货币到资本的历史演变;从外源性看,资本权力生成有其现实性的条件,原始积累是资本权力产生的基础,资本积累是资本权力扩张的手段,私有制度是资本权力维系的保障;从历史性看,资本权力是现代资本主义社会最高的权力形态,超越了自然神权、世俗政权,跃升为权力谱系中占据统治性和支配性地位的强大力量。

尽管资本权力是从历史的地平线上生长起来的,但却隐含在自由主义的视线之外,自由主义不承认现代资本主义社会中依旧普遍存在人与人之间的支配性权力关系,他们在近代政治哲学视野中确立“私人领域”和“公共领域”二分的思维模式,否认“私人领域”中不对等性权力的存在;古典政治经济学以自由市场的等价交换原则遮蔽了资本权力问题。马克思则立足于唯物史观的宏大视野,着眼于人的解放的历史高度,秉持历史性原则、现实性原则和价值性原则,完成了对资本权力的解蔽使命,终结了近代政治哲学对权力存在领域二分的狭隘认识,解构了古典政治经济学宣扬的自由平等假象,揭开了黑格尔建构的理性王国的神秘面纱,还原了资本权力的本质并凸显资本权力的原貌。马克思认为,资本不是一种物,而是一种以物为中介的关系,更是一种权力。他深刻阐释了资本是对雇佣劳动及其劳动产品的支配权力;是支配一切的经济权力,既支配物的世界又支配人的世界;更是一种异化的独立化的社会权力。

作为统摄和主宰一切的经济权力,资本权力不是一个凝固的静止状态,它有其运行的内在机制,是一个随着剩余价值的生产和剩余价值的实现不断扩张的动态过程。我们以典型的产业资本为例,资本权力运转在资本形成、资本增殖、资本积累的各个过程中,体现在货币资本、生产资本、商品资本的循环演变中,发生在购买、生产、销售的各个环节中,具体表现为市场活动中的交换权力、生产劳动中的支配权力、消费过程中的操纵权力。资本权力不仅支配着经济领域,而且渗透到政治领域、蔓延到文化领域,对政治生活和文化生活产生了至关重要的影响。资本权力的运行体现出多重鲜明特性,具体表现为剥削手段的隐蔽性、运作范围的扩张性、支配程度的加剧性。

马克思的资本权力批判不是纯粹的政治经济学批判,而是蕴含着人的生存论的政治经济学—哲学批判。在马克思看来,资本权力尽管具有一定的历史进步性和暂时合理性,但本质上资本权力对人进行着从肉体到精神、从生产到消费、从时间到空间的全方位管控和统治,吞噬了人的主体性,泯灭了人的自由个性,造成人的劳动异化和精神物化,是一种束缚人、捆绑人、奴役人的力量,严重阻碍了人的解放的实现进程。即使资本主义发展到当代,数字信息技术席卷全球,资本权力呈现出数字资本权力的新形态,但其在本质上只是资本权力在当代的延伸和发展,而不是质变和消除,数字资本依旧是剥削人、奴役人、统治人的资本权力,人从资本拜物教深陷数字拜物教,落入人的数字化生存困境。

马克思的资本权力批判只是手段,走向人的解放才是目的。马克思以资本权力批判为“靶子”,通过对资本权力本质的澄明和资本权力幻相的还原,透视到资本主义社会存在的种种剥削和压榨,致力于完成对资本权力的扬弃和超越,走向人的解放。资本权力是一个历史范畴,因而在历史中生成的资本权力必然在历史的发展中走向消亡。资本权力自我扬弃的内在必然性、客观历史性和现实条件性表明了资本权力必将走向消亡的“天命”,但这种消亡并不是一个完全剔除主体性的纯粹自然的过程,而是要依靠最具先进性和革命性力量的无产阶级,无产阶级通过革命的手段瓦解资本权力,实现无产阶级和全人类的共同解放。共产主义是扬弃和超越资本权力的必由之路,它是消灭现存状况的现实运动,必须历经共产主义第一阶段和高级阶段。中国代表了人类走向共产主义的发展方向,我们处在共产主义第一阶段也就是社会主义阶段,要坚持以人民为中心的发展思想,以中国特色社会主义先进制度规约资本权力,坚持利用资本和管控资本并行,最终将在共产主义高级阶段完成对资本权力的根本超越,走向人的解放,实现自由个性。

Capital is the core and soul of modern capitalist society, and also the object that Marx researched and criticized all his life - an important category of capitalist production relations. Capital, with its powerful force, has promoted the transformation of social history, but it has also become a shackle to realize the free development and complete liberation of human. Marx criticized it deeply. From the era in which Marx lived to the present, capital, as the “dominant economic power in bourgeois society”, has existed like the “shine light” and ghost. It not only gains dominance in capitalist countries, but also has a profound impact on the development of contemporary China. It does not withdraw from the stage of history but instead caused a new alienation problem of human existence with a new mode of existence. Therefore, to solve a series of development problems in reality, it requires us to re-examine Marx’s criticism of capital power from the perspective of human liberation.

Historical materialism believes that nothing comes out of thin air but rooted in the soil of history and reality. Capital power does not exist naturally, but is the product of historical development. It is the result of the combined action of multiple factors such as historical, realistic, relational and irrational etc. From the perspective of endogeneity, the generation of capital power has gone through the historical evolution from commodity, currency to capital. From the perspective of exogeneity, the generation of capital power has its realistic conditions. Primitive accumulation is the basis for the generation of capital power and capital accumulation is the means of capital power expansion, and private system is the guarantee for the maintenance of capital power. From the historical point of view, capital power is the highest form of power in modern capitalist society, surpassing natural theocracy and secular regime and jumping into a powerful force occupying a dominant position in the power spectrum.

Although capital power has grown from the horizon of history, it is outside the sight of liberalism. Liberalism does not recognize the still prevailing dominant power relations between people in modern capitalist society. They established the thinking mode of the dichotomy between the “private sphere” and the “public sphere” based on modern political philosophy and denied the existence of unequal power in the “private sphere”. Classical political economy obscures the issue of capital power with the principle of equivalent exchange in the free market. Based on the grand vision of historical materialism, focusing on the historical height of human liberation and adhering to the principles of historicity, reality and value, Marx accomplished the mission of demasking the power of capital, ended the narrow understanding of the dichotomy of the power existence filed in the modern political philosophy, deconstructed the illusion of freedom and equality advocated by classical political economy, unveiled the mystery of the rational kingdom constructed by Hegel and restored the essence of capital power and highlighted the original appearance of capital power. Marx believes that capital is not an object, but a relationship mediated by objects, and more importantly, a kind of power. He profoundly illustrated that capital is the dominant power to wage labor and its products; it is the economic power to dominate everything, both the world of things and the world of people; it is an alienated and independent social power.

As the economic power that dominates everything, capital power is not a fixed static state, but it has its own internal mechanism of operation. It is a dynamic process that continues to expand with the production of surplus value and the realization of surplus value. Taking typical industrial capital as an example, capital power operates in the various processes of capital formation, capital proliferation and capital accumulation, and is reflected in the cyclical evolution of money capital, production capital and commodity capital, is occurred in each part of purchase, production and sales, and is embodied in the exchange power in market activities, the dominance power in production labor and the manipulation power in the consumption process. Capital power not only dominates the economic field, but also penetrates into the political field, spreads to the cultural field and has a crucial impact on political and cultural life. The operation of capital power reflects multiple distinctive characteristics, which are embodied in the concealment of exploitation means, the expansion of the operation scope and the aggravation of the domination degree.

Marx’s critique of capital power is not a pure critique of political economy, but a political economy-philosophical critique that contains the theory of human existence. In Marx’s view, although capital power has certain historical progress and temporary rationality, in essence, capital power exercises all-round control and rule over people from body to spirit, from production to consumption and from time to space, devouring human subjectivity, destroying free personality of human and causing labor alienation and spiritual materialization of human. It is a force that restrains, binds and enslaves people and seriously hinders the realization process of human liberation. Even though capitalism has developed to the contemporary era, digital information technology has swept the world, and capital power has taken on a new form of digital capital power, in essence, it is only the extension and development of capital power in the contemporary era, rather than qualitative change and elimination. Digital capital is still the capital power to exploit,enslave and rule people. People fall into digital fetishism from capital fetishism and fall into the dilemma of digital survival.

Marx’s criticism of capital power is only a means, while the goal is the liberation of human beings. Taking the criticism of capital power as the “target”, through the clarification of the nature of capital power and the restoration of the illusion of capital power, Marx penetrated into all kinds of exploitation and oppression existing in capitalist society, and was committed to completing the sublation and transcendence of capital power and moving towards the liberation of human. Capital power is a historical category, so the capital power generated in history will inevitably die out in the development of history. The inherent inevitability, objective historicity and realistic conditions of the self-sublation of capital power show that capital power will die out. However, this demise is not a purely natural process that completely eliminates subjectivity, but relies on the most advanced and revolutionary forces of the proletariat. The proletariat disintegrates the power of capital through revolutionary means and realizes the common liberation of the proletariat and all mankind. Communism is the only way to sublate and transcend the power of capital. It is a realistic movement that eliminates the existing situation and must go through the first and advanced stages of communism. China represents the development direction of mankind towards communism. We are in the first stage of communism, that is, the stage of socialism. We must adhere to the vision of people-centered development, regulate capital power with the advanced socialist system with Chinese characteristics, and insist on utilizing capital and controlling capital parallels. We will ultimately complete the fundamental transcendence of capital power in the advanced stage of communism, move towards the liberation of human and realize free individuality.
