20世纪30年代适逢科学化运动，中国科学社以刊行《科学画报》响应号召。1933年8月1日，《科学画报》第一期正式发行，销量过万。他们用简洁明了的文字和丰富有趣的图画，将世界上最新出现的科学发明与科学知识原理介绍给民众和儿童，“这新呱呱坠地科学画报”，从此变为“引大众入科学的媒介”，成为我国近代史上第一份由科学社团所创办的专业性科普期刊。 然而关于《科学画报》的研究却一直为学者所遗忘，其历史地位一直被中国科学社和《科学》杂志的光芒所掩盖，对于其出版了哪些内容，以何种方式传播，何以能在战火中坚持，回答者甚少。本文选取《科学画报》1933年至1949年间共15卷内容，采取随机抽样的方式抽取47本期刊进行内容分析，试图总结《科学画报》的出版特征，为当今的科普出版提供借鉴。 《科学画报》具有鲜明的内容和形式特征。内容方面：1、《科学画报》学科分布十分广泛，涉及40余个学科领域；2、内容专业且有趣，《科学画报》的作者团队阵容豪华，有许多专业科学家为之供稿组稿，行文深入浅出，生动有趣；3、积极与读者互动，编辑不仅成立“读者信箱”回答读者疑问，在内容安排上也积极听取读者的需求和建议，为读者服务。为了使《科学画报》成为一本好看、好懂、好玩的科学杂志，编辑部在形式上也下足了功夫。1、作为一本画报，《科学画报》的图片数量十分丰富，平均每页2.44幅图片，且图片的种类多样与正文紧密契合2、编辑不停设计新的目录专栏和正文样式，照顾读者的需求。除此之外，《科学画报》还摸索出多种促销经营模式，出版发行商业化，减轻读者负担的同时保障其持续的出版，在战火纷飞中不忘初心、坚守使命，成为中国近代历史最悠久、影响力最大的科普期刊，为中国近代的科学出版及科学教育做出了卓越的贡献。

In the 1930s, China Science Community published The Popular Science in responded to the the scientific movement.. On August 1, 1933, the first issue of the The Popular Science was officially released and sold over 10,000. By using concise words and interesting pictures, they introduced the latest scientific inventions and knowledges to the people and children in China. As “a New born infant” , the journal has since become “a medium for bringing people into science”. It was the first professional science popular periodical established by the scientific society in our country's modern history. However, the research on the Popular Science has always been forgotten by scholars. Its historical status has always been overshadowed by the light of China Science Society and "Science" magazine. What content has been published and how it has been disseminated and adhered during the war? There are very few respondents for those questions. This paper selects 15 volumes of the Popular Science from 1933 to 1949, and adopts a random sampling method to extract 47 periodicals for content analysis, attempting to summarize its publishing characteristics and providing reference for today's popular science publishing. The Popular Science has distinctive content and formal characteristics. In terms of content: 1, Popular Science has a very broad distribution of disciplines, involving more than 40 subject areas; 2, content is very professional and interesting, the team of the author of Popular Science is luxurious, and there are many professional scientists who contribute to it.; 3, they actively interact with readers, editors not only set up a "reader mailbox" to answer reader questions, but also actively listen to readers' needs and suggestions in the content arrangement to serve readers. In order to make the Popular Science a scientific magazine that is good-looking, well-understood, and fun to play, the editorial department also devoted a lot of effort to its form. 1. As a pictorial, the number of pictures in the Popular Science is very huge, with an average of 2.44 pictures per page, and the variety of pictures is closely related to the text. 2. The editor keeps designing new catalog columns and text styles, taking care of the readers’ needs. Besides, the Popular Science has also explored a variety of promotional business models, reducing the burden on readers while protecting its continued publication. Therefore, it has become the oldest and most influential popular science periodical in modern Chinese history and has made outstanding contributions to modern science publishing and science education in China.
