Death is one of the important themes in Wordsworth's and Eliot's poem. Wordsworth injects abundant emotion into Lucy Gray and shapes the death of a little girl Lucy based on the countryside which is beautiful but heartless. Eliot keeps a frostier attitude of observation in The Hollow Men and shapes the death of the hollow men in the shabby and decaying city which pretends like nature. The deads’ own characteristics as well as their process and spaces of death construct the theme of death together. The differences between these elements in two poem show that during the change of eras, people's spirit is getting number and their living environment is getting worse and interpersonal relationship is getting more indifferent, which all show the fatalism of death and the importance of human spirit.
