数是人类最基本的语义范畴之一，从语义角度看，任何民族都有数的概念，也一定有表达数概念的手段。然而从跨语言的类型学角度看，数概念在不同语言中的表达手段很不同，甚至是相去甚远的。根据数的形态特性可以把自然语言分为有数范畴的语言和无数范畴的语言。作为孤立语典型代表的汉语，自然缺少以形态手段表现的数语法范畴，西方语言的数范畴在汉语里基本是用分析形式来表达的。 本文专门考察汉语光杆普通名词是如何表达数的范畴以及如何辨认其所指是单数还是复数的规律，通过对大量语言实例的考察，可以发现在汉语数范畴表达手段的各种类型中，难以认定的一类所占的比例最高，并且总结出一个大致的趋势，即零形式型的表达手段＞前加型的表达手段＞构词型的表达手段＞共现型的表达手段＞附加型的表达手段。 我们认为，即使作为一个语义范畴，数在汉语中也不是一个重要的范畴，在表达和理解的时候，除非有表达的需要，一般情况下，数的信息是不介入表达或理解的过程的，这是由汉语的特点决定的。

Number is a basic semantic category of human language. Although every nationality has the concept of number, the realization of number category in different languages is not the same. There are languages with syntactic number category and languages without syntactic number category. Obviously, number category in Chinese is semantic, but not syntactic. This thesis aims at analyzing how number category of Chinese bare nouns works and how the identification between nouns in singular form and plural form can be made. Based on the analysis of data, we find that the highest proportion is the kind of you can not tell whether the bare noun is singular or plural. We also find that even as a semantic category, number is not an important category in Chinese.
