唐丽园有关东亚文学研究的著作主要有《运动中的文本帝国:日本文学在中国大陆及台湾地区、韩国的文化转换》(Empire of Texts in Motion: Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese Transculturations of Japanese Literature)与《生态含混:环境危机与东亚文学》(Ecoambiguity: Environmental Crises and East Asian Literatures)。
In the English world, the studies of East Asian literatures mainly relate to the holistic view of East Asian literatures revealed in the writing of the history of literature and the studies of the works of East Asian writers. The studies of East Asian literatures by American scholar Karen Laura Thornber is being constructed and worth noting herein. In recent years, one of the focuses of her monographs and articles has been the literatures of East Asian countries, mainly referring to Japan, China and Korea. She has generally discussed East Asian literatures and stressed the internal connections of literatures in this region. This thesis lists Karen Laura Thornber 's monographs on the studies of East Asian literatures, Empire of Texts in Motion: Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese Transculturations of Japanese Literature and Ecoambiguity: Environmental Crises and East Asian Literatures as research objects. This thesis consists of five parts. The introduction states the origin of these studies, Karen Laura Thornber's personal experience, wide field of vision, all the fieldtrips she took and her academic path, highlighting the pioneering significances in her studying of the internal interactions of East Asian literatures. The first chapter focuses on Karen Laura Thornber's first monograph Empire of Texts in Motion: Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese Transculturations of Japanese Literature. This chapter summarizes the main contents and ideas of Karen Laura Thornber and focuses on the concept “the literary contact nebula” proposed in this book. Then all the linguistic contact, readerly contact, writerly contact and textual contact in China, Japan and Korea is anlayzed respectively, based on which this chapter summarizes the writing logic of the entire book and analyzes the limitations of her study. The second chapter explores the main issues of Karen Laura Thornber's second book, Ecoambiguity: Environmental Crises and East Asian Literatures, that is, environmental crisis, East Asian literatures and ecological ambiguity. This chapter continues to generalize the characteristics of her studies on East Asian literatures analyzed in the first chapter. The third chapter summarizes and reflects the characteristics of Karen Laura Thornber’s studies on East Asian literatures, and attempts to propose the future of studies on East Asian literatures; Finally, based on the academic background of the global trend and cultural pluralism, Karen Laura Thornber’s exposure to East Asian literature contacts engenders the hope that national literature can go beyond regional literature to the world literature.
