With the rise of the mass consumer culture, fan groups and their practical behaviors, symbolic production, psychological emotions, and identity issues have aroused the interest of humanities and social sciences. With the development of society and media, fans use the network as a link to extend their daily life to the offline. They have gradually become a practitioner with group attributes and rules and regulations, and actively participate in the cultural industry. Fans who draw emotional energy and gain spiritual identity. In this context, the author has raised the following research questions:
First, at the micro level, what is the internal real structure of the fan community? What factors affect structural stratification? How do fans interact within each level?
Secondly, from a meso level, how do fans at different levels implement symbol exchange? How does the emotion and power associated with it flow between different levels?
Finally, from a macro perspective, how does the interactive ritual form an interactive ritual chain on a larger scale? What is the relationship between the fan community as a whole and the external community? How to identify the identity in the external interaction and how to establish a sense of identity with the group?
This article takes Dylan Wang's fan community as a case study object. With the interactive ritual chain theory proposed by Collins, through the half-year online and offline combined participatory observation, supplemented by in-depth interviews and focus groups, the above issues are more detailed.
At the micro level, this paper clarifies the stratification standards of the fan community, and draws on the interactive rituals from the core interactive context of the
three levels, focusing on how the high-levels gain power in the domination ceremony and the interaction of the middle-level groups. In the cycle process, the discovery level profoundly affects the way individuals participate in interaction and obtain identity. At the meso level, the author discusses the symbolic exchange in the interactive ritual market and the “embedding” of the material market. The final consideration is how emotion and power follow. At the macro level, this article focuses on how the community seeks identity in the interactive practice of internal and external diversification. On this basis, based on the research results, the author combines the current status of fan interaction with the current innovation of Collins's interactive ritual chain theory. The above provides a reference for us to interpret the rich and varied fan behaviors.
