在以和平与发展为主流的当今世界，国家形象已成为各国综合国力竞争的重要因素。现有研究中,以文秋芳和张虹为代表的一些学者已将语言学理论，尤其是将韩礼德的系统功能语言学中的及物性理论应用到中国和美国国家形象自我构建研究。

本研究选取习近平和特朗普于2018年和2019年发表的新年贺词为研究材料，以及物性系统为理论框架，采取定性与定量相结合的方法，对语料中各及物性过程和参与者进行分析，旨在揭示中美两国领导人新年贺词中各种及物性过程和参与者的数量分布，进而揭示两国领导人在各自新年贺词中分别构建的中美国家形象。

本研究发现，中国构建的国家形象为人民当家做主的国家、国际舞台上负责任的大国和国际和平的守卫者，美国构建的国家形象为举足轻重的经济强国、国家安全的守卫者和国际上占主导地位的统治者。此外，本研究证实了及物性用于中国国家形象构建的可行性，并为未来中国在政治语篇里国家形象的自我构建提供一些启示。

In the time when peace and development is the mainstream of the world, the national image has been recognized as a significant factor in the competition of comprehensive national power among countries. Some scholars, such as Wen (2017) and Zhang (2017), have applied the linguistic theories, especially the transitivity system of Halliday’s (1967) Systematic Functional Grammar, to the self-construction of China’s and America’s national images.

The current research selects Xi Jinping’s and Donald Trump’s New Year Blessings in 2018 and 2019 as research materials. Employing transitivity system as the theoretical framework of this research, the thesis investigates on transitivity Process and Participant by quantitative and qualitative methods, aiming at discovering the distribution of the transitivity Participants and Processes in Xi Jinping’s and Donald Trump’s New Year Blessings and unveiling the national images respectively constructed in their speeches.

This study reveals China’s national image as a people-oriented country, a responsible major nation in the world stage and a guardian of world peace, and America’s national image as an economic heavyweight, a defender of national security and a dominating ruler of the world. Also, it proves the feasibility of transitivity in the construction of China’s national image and provides some implications for self-constructed China’s national image in the future political discourses.
