Through the evolution from reportage literature in the 80s to personalized writing in the 90s, female writing has bonded with non-fiction in the new millennium, finding a new direction for the development of women's literature and giving rise to a series of significant works. This is partly due to the attention given to female non-fiction writers by the 21st-century publication and award system, providing them with valuable opportunities to be heard. It is also thanks to the surge of new media non-fiction writing platforms after 2011, which made non-fiction more accessible and penetrated the lives of ordinary individuals with rapid dissemination and strong diffusion effects.
I believe that after more than two decades of vigorous development, non-fiction female writing has gradually evolved into a genre with its own independent and unified aesthetic quality. Previous research, however, has often focused on scattered studies of the community of non-fiction female writers, their significant works, and narrative features, lacking a comprehensive grasp of non-fiction female writing. Moreover, there has not been sufficient and reasonable evaluation of the value that new media writing platforms bring to the development of non-fiction female writing. Therefore, researching the development and evolution of non-fiction female writing, exploring the deep-rooted reasons for its changes, and clarifying the crises and challenges encountered during its development are particularly important.
This paper first outlines the historical background of non-fiction female writing in the introduction, using a vertical timeline to review the reportage literature of the 80s, the personalized writing of the 90s, and provides an overview of non-fiction female writing in the new century. By comparing, it emphasizes the new changes in themes, genres, and narrative characteristics in the inheritance and development of non-fiction female writing from the previous two decades.
The first chapter analyzes the changes in the narrative subject and investigation methods of non-fiction female writing from the inside. It starts with the transition of narrators from having a strong sense of subjectivity to gradually fading subjectivity.
Additionally, the writing community has expanded, especially with the rise of non- professional writers on new media platforms. The methods of investigation in non- fiction have also changed, moving from traditional field research to deep frontline identity changes. These changes reflect the gradual maturity and diversification of non- fiction female writing in narrative perspectives and modes of expression.
The second chapter explores external aspects, discussing the changes in dissemination and writing methods of non-fiction female writing in the new media environment, including the characteristics and evolution of dissemination mechanisms on new media writing platforms, and how these changes affect the dissemination and reception of works. It focuses on the participation and impact of the general readership on new media platforms, while highlighting the crises and challenges these changes pose to writers.
The third chapter delves into the dimensions of authenticity and literariness, focusing on the changes in evaluation standards for non-fiction female writing. It also discusses the evolution of the ethics of non-fiction female writing, emphasizing the sincerity and literary characteristics that non-fiction female writing should possess.
How to maintain independence in creation while avoiding the traps of commercialization and actively using internet platforms to expand the dissemination and influence of their works is a question that every non-fiction female writer in the new era must consider. Therefore, in the conclusion, the paper reflects on the content discussed earlier, exploring the problems faced by non-fiction female writing in the past two decades and the potential solutions, in hopes that female writers can continue to refine their work on deeper and broader social issues. With authentic and sensitive strokes, they can record the pulse of the era, reflecting the life experiences and spiritual journeys of contemporary people, allowing non-fiction female writing to continue to thrive in the new era.
