In this paper, I take the three particular images that symbolize and suggest the themes in "the midnight garden" as the starting points, which are "the clock", "the garden" and "Hatty", to analyse the novel from the three sides and aspects. By drawing close to to the text and thorough elaboration, I comprehend its profound and meaningful significance clearly and comprehensively, which is about "time", "the childhood" and "growth".
