英语教材不仅是学生学习英语、获取文化知识的重要学习资源,也是教师开展英语教学和培养学生文化意识的重要工具。英语教材中文化内容的选择直接影响着文化教学的效果。本研究选取了外研社版高中英语教材New Standard English(2019年版)必修模块的阅读材料,旨在从不同角度对其中所包含的文化内容进行分类,并分析其中的文化内容是否符合2017年颁布的《普通高中英语课程标准》(下文简称为《新课标》)中对文化知识内容的要求。研究结果表明:该教材的阅读材料覆盖了丰富的文化内容,包含了不同层面、不同地域的文化,主要侧重于介绍精神文化和目的语国家文化。此外,该教材的文化内容基本上符合2017年版《新课标》中对文化知识的要求,但就对比中外文化中关于行为举止的异同上还有所欠缺。根据以上结论,教材编写者可以进一步改进该教材中阅读材料的选择和编排。此外,高中英语教师也应该根据实际教学需要,对教材中的文化内容进行适当的删改和补充,从而更好地开展文化教学。

English textbooks are not only an important resource for students to learn English and acquire cultural knowledge, but also an important tool for teachers to carry out language teaching and cultivate students’ cultural awareness. The selection of cultural content in English textbooks directly influences the effect of cultural teaching. This study chooses the reading materials of the three compulsory volumes in New Standard English, a series of English textbooks published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in 2019, as the research materials. Firstly, the cultural contents contained in the reading materials are classified according to different perspectives. Then, this study analyzes and explores whether the cultural contents meet the objectives of cultural knowledge put forward by English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School (2017). The results show that the reading materials of the compulsory volumes in NSE (2019) cover rich cultural elements, which mainly focus on the introduction of spiritual culture and target-language culture. In addition, the cultural contents of the textbooks basically meet the requirements of the objectives of cultural knowledge proposed by ECS (2017), though little attention has been paid to the comparison of the similarities and differences of behavior between Chinese and foreign cultures. Textbook compliers can further improve and adjust the selection and arrangement of the cultural contents in reading materials. Besides, English teachers at senior high school should also appropriately adapt the cultural contents in textbooks to better meet the practical needs of English teaching. |
