This study examines the emigration and settlement intentions among young Chinese individuals, both domestically and overseas. Using survey data collected from a sample of young Chinese respondents, the research investigates the factors influencing their decisions to emigrate from China and their preferences regarding permanent settlement in their destination countries. The analysis considers a range of demographic, socioeconomic, and attitudinal variables to explore the complexity of emigration intentions and settlement considerations among this population. The findings reveal that young Chinese individuals exhibit diverse motivations and aspirations regarding emigration and settlement. Economic opportunities, quality of life, career advancement, and family considerations are factors influencing their decisions. On top of that, cultural, social, and political factors play major roles in influencing emigration intentions and settlement preferences. Furthermore, the study also reports disparities in emigration patterns and settlement attitudes between domestic and overseas young Chinese, reflecting the impact of different backgrounds and experiences. Despite the pull of emigration, many young Chinese individuals express a strong attachment to their homeland and consider returning to China eventually. Furthermore, the research underscores the importance of considering individual circumstances, goals, and barriers when examining emigration and settlement intentions among young Chinese. Overall, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex topic surrounding emigration and settlement decisions among young Chinese individuals. By clarifying the factors driving these intentions, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders can develop targeted strategies to address the needs and aspirations of this dynamic demographic group in the context of global mobility and socio-economic change.
